Position Purpose & Scope:


Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Officer analyzes and develops agency policies, procedures, practices, and programs that advance Child Action, Inc.'s commitment to building a strong culture of belonging, workforce diversity, and continuous learning.

The DEI Officer is a member of the Leadership Team and leads the agency's diversity and inclusion programs internally and in the community.


Typical Duties:


  • Uses observation, listening sessions, focus groups, oneonone meetings, surveys, staff feedback, and other relevant data to evaluate staff needs for training on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
  • Conducts research, analysis, and benchmarking across other organizations to provide insight on developing an inclusive culture
  • Designs leveled staff development materials for use during classroom or virtual training, webinars, blended learning programs, and online selfdirected modules
  • Develops and oversees diversity and inclusionrelated employee resource groups and leads the agency's diversity committee which plays an active role in engaging all staff, assisting the DEI Officer in implementing initiatives, and communicating the DEI Officer's singular message to all staff.
  • Develops, defines, and articulates a clear diversity, equity and inclusion agenda including goals and objectives, detailed action plans, success metrics with key performance indicators (KPIs), and contingency plans
  • Collaborates with agency leadership, and the agency's diversity committee to create and deliver a companywide inclusion program that fosters a greater sense of belonging and engagement, and cultural competency
  • Develops diversity and inclusion materials for parents and childcare providers and collaborates with the Chief Strategy Officer and the Communications team to distribute the information
  • Conducts reviews of agency and departmental policies and procedures to ensure they are in accordance with the agency's principles, and determines and implements next steps when there is a misalignment
  • Promotes agency's commitment to a climate of equity and inclusion through interaction and training of community individuals including agency clients, parents, and childcare providers
  • Participates in external meetings, conferences, and/or events targeting diverse communities to develop networks and relationships that support the agency's diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives
  • Presents diversity, equity, and inclusion information, workshops, and trainings to groups of all sizes.
  • Communicates sensitive information in a manner that is tactful, cognizant of staff and community readiness, and opens lines of communication to foster understanding and growth
  • Performs other jobrelated duties as assigned
