JOB DESCRIPTION




POSITION:

2nd SHIFT CUSTODIAN Location:
Fabyan Elementary


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:12 Months - 40-hour work week as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a school custodian or the equivalent in the custodial service at other institutions and firms preferred
  • Able to communicate and understand simple written and oral instructions in English is preferred
  • Able to perform all of the housekeeping functions and duties listed
  • Able to perform such tasks as scouring sinks, furnishings, equipment, polishing mirrors, dusting furniture and mopping floors
  • Able to effectively operate vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, and other custodial equipment
  • Able to effectively navigate and operate cellphone, computer and district software
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

JOB GOAL:

Provide students, teachers, and the community with a safe, clean, attractive, comfortable and efficient environment in which to learn and teach.


GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform all tasks as assigned by the Director of Facility Operations or Building Services

Coordinator

Perform repeated tasks in maintaining an assigned area of the District in an orderly, safe, and clean condition

Select materials and supplies from supply room, load utility cart and transport to work area. At the end of shift, return unused supplies and cart to custodial closet, clean cart and equipment, leaving closet in a clean and orderly condition

Clean assigned areas by washing furnishings, floors, and equipment with special cleaning solutions. Use dust cloths and vacuum cleaner to dust window sills, blinds, floor, and furniture. Empty wastebaskets and arrange furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion. Scour and polish sinks, shower areas, water fountains, mirrors, and similar equipment. Stock supplies of soap, paper towels, and other dispensable items. Change light bulbs that can be reached with a 6 ft. ladder as needed or per assigned work order.

Report any mechanical failures or negative conditions as observed in the assigned area to supervisor
Participate in completion of assigned work orders

Initiate work orders when administration/staff inquires with a new or unusual task

Function independently as applicable to assigned work

When requested to participate in a crew activity, do so willingly

Maintain your area with a sense of pride as it represents what you do
Be a good example to students and community users as you represent the school

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


DAILY PROCEDURES

Classrooms:


  • Empty trash receptacles and replace liner when torn or dirty
  • Whiteboards will be maintained to meet the expectations of the instructional staff using approved cleaner
  • Whiteboard trays will be wiped down and clear of debris
  • Empty and clean pencil sharpeners
  • All hard surface floors will be dust mopped and wet mopped. The floor will be free of all debris including edging and corners
  • All furnishings will be free of graffiti, gum, and dust
  • Damp wipe and disinfect furniture, e.g. desks, chairs, file cabinets
  • Spots and gum on all floor coverings will be removed upon discovery
  • Remove stains from walls, especially around wastebaskets, pencil sharpeners, and light switches
  • Remove all tape on walls
  • Clean and sanitize all sinks, drinking fountains, and faucets
  • Teacher's desk will be dusted without disturbing instructional material
  • Dust all horizontal surfaces. Cobwebs will be removed. Establish a routine of dusting a portion of your area daily, so by the end of the week, all of your area has been dusted
  • Clean entry door glass and adjacent window glass
  • Vacuum all carpeted floors
  • Close and lock all windows
  • Turn off the lights, close and lock classroom doors

Restrooms/locker rooms:


  • Wear disposable gloves
  • Clean, sanitize, and polish all fixtures including toilet bowl, urinals, and hand basins
  • Use approved sanitizer on sinks and generously rinse
  • Clean and polish all chrome fittings to remove water deposits
  • Clean and sanitize toilet seats
  • Mirrors will be fingerprint and smudge free
  • Floors will be mopped at a minimum once daily with an approved germicidal cleaner
  • Walls/lockers will be graffiti free. Profanity, obscenity, and gang related material shall be removed immediately upon discovery
  • Sanitary and trash receptacles shall be emptied, sanitized, and liners replaced
  • Dust ledges, fixtures, etc., and remove cobwebs
  • Refill all dispensers to normal limits including tissue, paper towels, liners, soap, etc.
  • Kaivac entire restroom and use appropriate equipment for cleaning

Corridors/stairwells/entrances:


  • Vacuum all carpeted floors
and mats.

  • All hard surface floors will be dust mopped. The floor will be free of all debris including edging
