Join our team and make a positive impact on the lives of others We are looking for an Internal Audit Specialist_ _I for our Compliance team.


  • This role is remote with potential travel to our main New York office and/or the FreedomCare hub closest to you._

Department & Position Overview:


Under the supervision of the Assistant Manager of Auditing, this role focuses on supporting the Compliance Department in our out of state jurisdictions by performing audits, investigating Fraud, Waste & Abuse claims, providing risk findings, and being a liaison to the General Managers of the jurisdictions and the Compliance Department.

The Internal Audit Specialist role will encompass a wide range of responsibilities that will aid the department in maintaining regulatory requirements.


Every Day You Will:


  • Perform audits on cases to identify areas of risk as outlined in accordance with specific regulatory guidelines (reviewing timesheets, clock in times, facial recognition, onboarding documents.
  • Keep up to date on relevant regulations and possess SME knowledge to educate and train others.
  • Appling findings of a riskbased compliance work plan to audits appropriately.
  • Perform investigation actions as assigned by management according to established procedures related to inquiries made to the Compliance Department, grievances/complaints, and government agencies.
  • Maintain current working knowledge on regulatory requirements associated with assigned state jurisdictions.
  • Work in collaboration with the General Managers of assigned jurisdictions and attend weekly/monthly meetings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on audits and projects as needed. Produce highquality work competently and efficiently performed in accordance with department standards. Monitor to identify patterns, trends, and variances during and from audits.
  • Monitor jurisdictions daily and present escalations to management immediately.
  • 2+ years of experience performing healthcare audits, investigations, grievances, and complaints.
  • Experience working with multiple state regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, leaders, and other jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated time management skills and change management.
  • Must have proven background of solid attention to detail.
  • Able to perform against set metrics and specific criteria.
  • Ability to write and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Displays taking ownership of projects and critical decision making.

Nice-to-Haves:


  • Knowledge of Medicaidfunded personal assistance programs in different state jurisdictions.
  • Experience using Salesforce or Medflyt systems.
