Your Specific Responsibilities:


Incumbent will be responsible for conducting statewide laboratory tests for the HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) antibody, preparing data for computer entry, and assisting with quality control measures in laboratory procedures.

Accessions and conducts testing on all specimens submitted for HIV diagnostic (Antibody Detection) and disease management testing. Primary responsibility is accessioning and shipment of public and private samples as directed by the Retrovirology Supervisor.

Accessions and ships eligible HIV-2 NAT (Nucleic Acid Testing) specimens to New York's designated HIV-2 Lab.

Conduct's HIV-1 NAT testing as needed by APHL (Association of Public Health Laboratories) (surge capacity) or if funding is obtained.

Routinely searches HIV-2 logs for eligible specimens. Maintains logs & prepares New York's Lab shipping manifests.


Collates data from test sources and provides appropriate billing information for submission by the word processing system operator supervisor to the laboratory billing office.

Participates in training to update technology on a regular basis.

Assist in special research studies, including data management and conduct tests in an appropriate manner.

Perform related duties as required.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing.

Knowledge of procedures, techniques & equipment used in lab testing and analysis.

Skill in the use of lab equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.


Qualifications:


Minimum:
Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Florida Clinical Laboratory Technician or Public Health Technician License in Serology or Microbiology.


Preferred:
AA/AS (MLT) or BS
