Department Overview


Gas Regulatory and Risk comprises several teams focused on developing and maintaining gas guidance documents, acting as the liaison with our federal and state regulators, managing and ensuring compliance with all applicable code requirements and commitments, managing the response development for internal and external requests, developing a risk strategy and quantitative modeling, leading the development of a risk-informed and resourced work plan, and developing regulatory strategy to support PG&E's position in regulatory proceedings.

All teams within Gas Regulatory and Risk serve a customer base both within Gas Engineering and Gas Operations, as well as cross-functionally with other PG&E organizations.

This position is located within the Gas Regulatory Compliance department within the Gas Regulatory and Risk organization.

The team is responsible for fostering pipeline safety compliance with its vision to advance our compliance culture in the gas organization by supporting, understanding, and adhering to regulatory requirements and commitments in service of our stakeholders.

Position Summary


This position will lead a team of compliance specialists and engineers that play a critical role in implementing and overseeing activities for district/division field inspections and for program inspections performed by state and/or federal regulators on PG&E's gas assets.

This position will oversee preparation of inspection response letters and other correspondence to and from the state and federal regulators.

Collaborate with cross functional teams in the gas functional area to support inspection and compliance activities.

Will be expected to participate in the Gas Risk and Compliance Committee and other governance meetings as it relates to compliance and report out on compliance metrics.

Provide thought leadership to improve compliance performance.
Position duties may include but are not limited to

  • Responsible for the regulatory compliance of the department's programs, which includes meeting on a regular basis with Legal, Regulatory Relations, and the CPUC, supporting and responding to CPUC investigations, Data Requests, and Notice of Violations. Work with regulators and other internal functional areas regarding regulatory rule changes and supporting processes.
  • Plan and manage activities in support of district/division field inspections and program inspections performed by state and/or federal regulators.
  • Responsible for communicating compliance performance such as findings, trends, and recommendations to directors, officers and governance committees in a clear and concise manner.
  • May be asked to support the Incident Command structure as part of the Gas Emergency Response Plan during incidents where Gas Emergency Center or Operations Emergency Centers are opened to support a specific incident.
  • May provide leadership to the Gas Operations Support Team (GOST) in responding to data requests from the CPUC, logging communications to various agencies including the CPUC, and providing quality assurance and technical reviews of all data and information submitted as part of the data request responses.
  • Provide guidance and training to employees on compliance matters, fostering a culture of awareness and accountability.
  • Provide direct supervision, staffing, training, coaching, and mentoring to direct reports. Assign, prioritize, and review project work, project initiatives, and special assignments.
Position may require up to approximately 30% of travel time in work schedule.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory (San Ramon, CA).


A reasonable salary range is:


Bay Area Minimum:
$136,000


Bay Area Maximum:
$232,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Shapes the compliance and/or risk program to meet enterprise requirements while addressing the unique needs and requirements of the LOB.
  • Benchmarks program internally and externally to identify best practices in assigned program areas and lead implementation of significant program changes, improvements, and enhancements.
  • Develops and leads LOB compliance inventories, completion of various compliance validation and controls effectiveness testing activities, and assessments and resolutions of control deficiencies.
