- Training and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of vocational or apprenticeship training attaining journeyman status in the recognized building trade.
- This position requires a general knowledge of building construction and a working knowledge of building maintenance & Ground requirements. Skill is required in performing maintenance work at the journeyman level in one or more recognized building trades.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully.
- Ability to work with staff and the public.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines efficiently.
- Ability to keep confidential information that is sensitive in nature.
- Ability to be flexible in the scheduling of time during peak periods of the school year.
- Perform maintenance and repair tasks including but not limited to carpentry, painting, hardware installation, HVAC, minor plumbing, minor electrical work and other building systems
- Replace broken glass; repair doors and locks; install security devices; build and install shelves and cabinets; lay, sand and refinish floors; replace and install floor tile; make necessary repairs to roofs, gutters, etc.
- Perform preventive maintenance work on a variety of equipment, heating and ventilating systems, recalibrate thermostats and univent controls and rooftop air handling units
- Operate building control systems to maintain environment safety, energy and security
- Maintain inventories and requisitions, supplies, and equipment as required
- Assist building custodians and grounds maintenance staff when the need arises
- Ability to work with students, staff and public
- All other duties as assigned.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):
The Building Maintenance Custodians works under the supervision of the Director of Facilities or designee, perform a variety of routine to complex maintenance and repair work at both the handyman and journeyman level, including maintenance work related to the upkeep of grounds and athletic fields for Algonquin Regional High School.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Work Environment: The work is performed in and around the school and town buildings.
Physical Requirements:
Good physical stamina is required to perform the job duties. The person must be able to stand for extended periods of time while performing duties. Must be able to use and move cleaning and maintenance equipment throughout the buildings. Must be able to climb a ladder and work in high places. The employee will be required to be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extremes of heat/cold up to 2/3 of the time. The employee is generally required to talk and/or listen, climb or balance and stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Use hands and reach with hands and arms more than 2/3 of the time. The employee regularly lifts up to 45 lbs. and occasionally lifts up to 75 lbs. The position has normal vision and hearing requirements.
