Job Purpose:

To lead assigned policy and regulatory initiatives, engaging with cross-functional teams and senior leadership on complex and challenging issues.

This role is responsible for directing and conducting financial analysis, evaluating the business case for company initiatives, helping shape the development of regulatory strategy and policy positions, and supporting regulatory filings.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Provide insight to the business on key policy and regulatory topics, with a focus on performancebased regulation and other innovative regulatory frameworks, enablers of electric system modernization, transmission system planning and development, and offshore wind.
  • Collaborate closely with crossfunctional teams to assess industry developments, identify core issues and their strategic implications, and drive alignment on recommended courses of action.
  • Direct and conduct analysis of how different ratemaking approaches would impact cost recovery, revenue timing and earnings.
  • Keep internal stakeholders up to date and informed on pertinent cost of capital and return on equity issues.
  • Provide technical, financial, and strategic input to advance energy policies, rate case strategies, business development efforts and other value creation initiatives within National Grid.
  • Distill complex information into clear and concise insights for senior leadership (e.g., presentations, memos, reports) and external stakeholders (e.g., regulatory testimony and other filings).
  • Manage internal working groups and external consultant supporting regulatory projects, particularly on cost of capital, capital structure, and earningsrelated topics.
  • Support the leadership, motivation and development of a professional team of analysts to ensure results are delivered in line with expectations and business objectives.
  • Other related duties as assigned to support the Policy & Regulatory Strategy team.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree; MBA or graduate degree preferred in economics, policy, political science, law, finance
  • Significant experience (8+ years) in utility industry strategy, regulation, or finance roles (or equivalent).
  • Understanding of utility regulation, rate design, and financial modeling sufficient to lead programs or projects.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills with an ability to identify key issues and recommend solutions to complex problems using data, logic and financial insight.
  • Strong communication and presentation development skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex issues and data to senior management and stakeholders.
  • This role is hybrid office/remote, working within the National Grid service territory.

Additional Qualifications:


Analysis and Problem Solving:

  • Ability to administer, analyze, interpret, create, and initiate policy and regulatory positions from concept to filing.
  • Ability to draft testimony and legislative language, including analysis of implementation pathways, business needs, and alignment with broader corporate strategy.
  • Ability to analyze, formulate and implement business strategies with only general direction.
  • Ability to conduct detailed, complex research, compile, coordinate, schedule, review, document, organize, verify data and conduct independent complex analysis and identify inconsistencies. Ability to scope and lead large analytical projects.

Leadership and Project Management:

  • Able to independently convene and lead project teams to advance policy and regulatory outcomes of strategic importance to the business.
  • Able to lead teams consisting of crossfunctional SMEs, including planning, directing and taking responsible charge of new, original and developmental assignments.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with the proven ability to manage multiple priorities and complex, major projects of significant scope, including unconventional projects.
  • Exemplary individual discretion and independent judgment on complex and unique issues of significant importance.

Stakeholder Management and Communications:

  • Demonstrates exceptional oral, written and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both internally across the organization (including at the senior executive level) and/or externally with seniorlevel stakeholders.
  • Comfortable leading discussions with VPs and SVPs to resolve key policy questions for the business.
  • Demonstrates leadership ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on complex and unique issues of significant importance. Specialized knowledge and outstanding competence in negotiating issues, risk and concerns with stakeholders across functional groups.

$131,000 - $154,000 a year
