Role Summary

  • The Director, Global Professional Society Affairs is a role within Global Medical and Scientific Affairs (GMSA) primarily responsible for strategic planning, coordination, and continuous engagement with professional medical societies and organizations.
  • This Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing strategies across the company's therapeutic area portfolio to enhance activities related to global professional relations with priority societies and organizations, coordinating communications and engagements across multiple teams.

Responsibilities and Primary Activities

  • Develops and coordinates innovative strategies for continuous engagement with prioritized U.S. and global professional medical societies and organizations in partnership with GMSA functions including US Medical Affairs and Patient Innovation & Engagement
  • Manages overarching coordination and prioritization related to GMSA professional society corporate memberships and related benefits in partnership with Global Professional Relations and Independent Medical Education (gPRIME) and GMSA Therapeutic Area Leadership
  • Provides strategic oversight of potential Independent Medical Education (IME) grants related to professional society/organization general meeting support (i.e., congresses, annual meetings) in alignment with therapeutic area strategic and medical educational priorities
  • Partners crossfunctionally to liaise and build trust with priority US and global professional societies and organizations
  • Identifies and upholds compliant best practices to support longterm professional society leadership relationships through programs and activities of mutual interest
  • Maintains knowledge of organizational strategic focus, interdepartmental activities, current clinical and scientific concepts, internal and external governing policies, and budget and project management, and vendor management
  • Manages appropriate processes and financial controls to ensure completion of programs within established budgets
  • Ensures compliance with existing internal and external guidelines as they pertain to professional relations, patient advocacy, and independent medical education, as well as our company's internal standards based on its interpretation of the applicable laws and regulations

Required
Qualifications, Skills, & Experience**
Minimum

  • BA/BS degree in life sciences + a minimum of 5 years of experience overseeing different types of medical education activities/programs at Global and/or Regional level
  • 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry
  • Ability to work in a matrixed environment as evidenced by crossfunctional team leadership, effective communication, and taking responsibility for results
  • Strong communication and strategic thinking skills
  • Proven ability to innovate and adapt to changing conditions, internal and external
  • Commitment to modeling the highest possible standards of ethics and integrity
  • Proven ability to innovate and think nontraditionally
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Good interpersonal, networking, and crossfunctional management skills

Preferred

  • MD, DO, NP, PA, PharmD, PhD or
  • MS + 3 years of relevant professional relations experience, or
  • Advanced degree in life sciences + 3 years of relevant professional relations experience
