Our training program is designed to take those without hospital-based health care experience through a STEP-WISE program, culminating in the achievement of Patient Care Technician Status.

Develop your skills and knowledge as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) in a eight - week training program. PCTs at TMC work in a care team with an RN to provide patient care. Typical tasks include taking vital signs, helping patients with activities of daily living, and keeping patients clean. Below is a video to learn more about the PCT responsibilities.

Training Breakdown:


The PCT training program is a 8 week program designed to introduce you to healthcare in general, and specifically to the role of the PCT at TMC.

The first two weeks of the program are spent in the classroom and skills lab learning the basics for the role of patient care technician/assistant.

The classroom and skill experiences are led by the TMC Clinical Education team at several locations on the TMC campus.


Week 3 occurs in the clinical setting on a TMC Unit to integrate theory/skills learned in a classroom/skills lab environment and transition to a clinical setting.

Week 4 includes a combination of clinical practice, with additional classroom experience for specialty skills, such as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) a Final Written Exam and Final testing of skills learned.

Weeks - 8 will consist of a Transition to Practice / Preceptorship
