Rowe Elementary/Middle School is a stand alone charter school, with a K-5 campus, and a 6-8 campus. Both campuses are located in the West Town/Wicker Park area of Chicago. Beginning next fall, we will reconfigure our campuses to be K-3 and 4-8.

  • The Dean of School Culture focuses on overseeing student culture and discipline. The Dean of Students builds close relationships with scholars and their families, which is the key to him/her effectively managing student behavior. S/he holds students accountable to the Code of Conduct, including determining appropriate consequences, leading restorative skillbuilding inschool suspensions, and monitoring/supervising lunch/afterschool detentions. S/he works closely with school personnel to ensure that students who are consistently struggling to meet behavioral expectations receive the appropriate interventions. The Dean of Students also collaborates with the school administration to oversee the student discipline and behavior management systems. S/he works with teachers to plan exciting incentives for scholars who are meeting or exceeding expectations, including weekly/monthly/quarterly rewards.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Work with school administration to establish and maintain a structured, positive, and inspiring school culture that permeates our school core values.
  • Work closely and effectively with scholars who have behavior challenges and their families; partner with the school social worker, teachers, Settlement staff, and families to execute behavior interventions when needed.
  • Conduct corrective behavioral interventions and maintain corresponding behavioral documentation.
  • Facilitate professional development on scholarteacher relationships, classroom management, parent partnership and school culture.
  • Conduct regular school walkthroughs to help staff maintain a high bar of excellence for SEL and culture.
  • Help supervise school arrival, breakfast, lunch, dismissal, and transition to ensure scholars are orderly and positive.
  • Work closely with school personnel to discuss proactive deescalation strategies and behavioral health best practices.
  • Assist teachers in developing leadership skills and responding to behavioral challenges in the classroom; train teachers with deescalation strategies in the classroom.
  • Manage the input and tracking of all disciplinary action into the school wide information system.
  • Collect and analyze school climate and SEL data.
  • Act as oncall resource for teachers when classroom discipline requires additional behavioral support.
  • Performs other duties and functions as assigned by school administration.

Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • History of strong positive results working in an educational setting or a behavioral health setting.
  • History of working with scholars that need additional supports (IEP, 504 plan, behavioral interventions, etc.)
  • Bilingual, English and Spanish preferred.
