Summary (Position Description):The panel shop supervisor will work with the panel shop fabricators to execute quality-built panels in a safe manor. The panel shop supervisor will work with Engineering on panel layouts as well as panel wiring schematics. As-Built mark-ups will be performed by the supervisor and will give feedback to engineering. Reviewing vendor components and designs to ensure UL 508A standards, best practice, and Safety requirement. Supporting Electrical and other team members to create and establish better standardization on design, documentation, training, assembly process, commissioning, and release to production. Involved with field troubleshooting and problem solving when field design problems arise. Work for continuous design and process improvement/optimization for field and panel design.

Duties & Tasks:


  • Participate in initial equipment conceptual development when needed and carefully balance product specifications, process control requirements, component selection, control architecture, cost, limits.
  • Panel Shop Supervisor will participate and oversee the operations of the panel shop including the following tasks.
  • Panel wiring conforms to the NEC, NFPA 70E, UL 508A standards.
  • Panel layouts match the panel designs.
  • Panel fabrications are carefully performed using the correct tooling and equipment.
  • Verification of wiring diagrams as well as components being unutilized
  • Minimize time spent on panel fabrication while maximizing the quality of the panel builds.
  • Meet or exceed panel fabrication build times as well as panel testing times.
  • Meet panel build time budgets, able to keep production schedules and meet delivery dates.
  • Participate in training processes and able to train others.
  • Proficiency selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD, motor starters, and key electrical control components.
  • Problem solving on any electrical design problem, issue and best practice solutions.
  • Hands on Troubleshooting of panel power and control related issues.
  • Familiarity and hand on troubleshooting panel power distribution, I/O panel, safety interlock circuits and instrument devices such as temperature and pressure sensors.
  • Establish test plans and control test plan execution at shop and for FAT reviews with the customer.
  • Coordinate with peers in other engineering groups to ensure that the panel fabrication is synchronized within all disciplines to meet the customer requirements.
  • Work closely with project managers and electrical team members to ensure all expectations and specifications are translated into the final panel fabrication.
  • Select and size electrical wiring based on UL508A and NEC requirements.
  • Manage vendor on control related deliverable to ensure UL 508A, customers standards and equipment specification.
  • Able to read customer P&ID's, electrical schematics, and equipment layouts.
  • In depth knowledge of Electrical Standards (NEC, NFPA 70E, UL508A).
  • Assist with QA development and standards and assist in ensuring the QA standards are being met.
  • Ensure 5S standards are adhered to.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):


  • NEC and NFPA 70E knowledge and experience and implementing the standards.
  • UL 508A knowledge and experience implementing the standards.
  • Knowledge of production management practices is a plus.
  • Familiar with EtherNet IP, Modbus RS485, Modbus TCP, and ProfiNet cabling requirements.
  • Proficiency programming and tuning AllenBradley, ABB and Danfoss variable frequency drives.

Requirements:


  • 5+ years of panel building experience.
  • 5+ years of electrical installation and troubleshooting experience.
  • 5+ years of supervising personnel.

Work Environment:


  • Office environment that includes office and light manufacturing/assembly operations. Majority of the time sitting down in front of a computer focused on designing electrical controls solutions, no anticipated lifting of weights, no exposure to hazardous materials.
Occasional travel to worksites requiring employee to follow jobsite safety requirements:
hardhats, steel toe boots, safety glasses, vests.
