Description

This is unskilled, limited semi-skilled, and semi-skilled manual work serving the City's Neighborhood Team (N-Team) in providing community improvements and assisting qualified homeowners with various home repairs addressing City Code violations, including, but not limited to, disabled accessibility improvements, carpentry, painting, plumbing, roof patching, masonry work, debris removal and yard maintenance.

Work involves driving a motor vehicle, using the required standard hand/power tools, small turf/landscaping equipment, various construction equipment to perform tasks of a manual nature, and other related work.

An employee in this class must be able to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions and perform required work above ground level using extension ladders up to 32'.

The starting salary and selection into a Maintenance Worker position, at level I or level II, will depend upon qualifications and experience.
The starting pay at level II is $16.47 Hourly.

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications


Applicants must:


  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Be able to, daily, perform heavy manual labor including frequently lifting and handling materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • At the Maintenance Worker II level, have significant experience in carpentry, painting, plumbing repair, roof repair, and/or concrete/masonry construction.

Desirable Qualifications


Preferred applicants:


  • Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Have completed OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 training.
  • Have carpentry, construction, or handyman experience.
  • Have attended, or preferably completed, a job training program related to construction, such as Job Corps, Youth Build, or a Pinellas Technical College program.
  • Have skill in the operation of various hand and power tools.
  • Have experience in the operation of small turf maintenance and landscape equipment.
  • Able to perform required work using extension ladders and/or construction staging.
  • Able to perform required work on roofs.
