WHAT YOU WILL DO:


Reporting to and in partnership with the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Director of Development plays a crucial role in securing the necessary resources to support the mission of Interfaith Community Services and to achieve the vision set by the agency's Strategic Plan.


The Director will be responsible for leading and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy, forging key partnerships and cultivating a network of supporters to drive sustainable growth and impact.

This position leads a dedicated team to achieve fundraising goals and is responsible for acting as the leader of the entire department upon the absence of the Chief Development Officer.

The role requires collaboration with Interfaith executive and program leadership, board of directors, community leaders, major donors, faith groups, local business and community partners.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet annual revenue goals, including individual giving, major gifts, capital campaigns, planned giving, corporate sponsorships, and special events.
  • Contribute to the development of organizational strategic plans, with a focus on revenue generation and sustainability. Evaluate fundraising trends and best practices to inform strategic decisionmaking.
  • Partner with the CDO to develop and manage the development department budget, tracking expenses and revenue projections. Monitor financial performance and adjust strategies as needed to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Work closely with the CDO and CEO to engage the board of directors to leverage their networks and support fundraising efforts. Directly assist the CDO and CEO in major gifts and planned gifts, and other specific assignments. Provide regular updates on fundraising progress and collaborate on donor cultivation strategies.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with current and potential major donors. Ask for and secure major gifts, ranging from $1,000 to $1 million+, and appropriately close and steward charitable gifts of all levels. Document donor contacts in donor database.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to the development team. Set clear goals and expectations for staff. Assign major donors to appropriate contacts within Interfaith.
  • Build a culture of philanthropy across the organization that encourages staff and volunteers to be advocates for Interfaith and demonstrates the impact of philanthropy.
  • Provide oversight and direction for the Database team in the strategic planning, evaluation, and enhancement of the overall database program
  • Support the direction of agencywide communication strategy of Interfaith, in partnership with the Chief Development Officer and Communications team
  • Direct planning and execution, with support of Fundraising team, of donor activities, appeals, campaigns, and fundraising events.
  • Develop and oversee systems to express appreciation to donors, ensuring their contributions are appropriately recognized.
  • Conduct tours of the agency and public presentations for potential donors/ volunteers and other interested parties, including both individuals and groups

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will be responsible for supervising fundraisers and donor database team members, as well as providing secondary supervision to the entire Development Team.

They provide daily supervision of tasks and direction and leadership to the team. They are responsible for making hiring and firing decisions, conducting performance evaluations, and identifying and promoting professional development opportunities.


Requirements:


EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in fund development with proven results and depth of knowledge in major gift fundraising
  • Preferred 3+ years securing major gifts ranging from $10,000 to $1 million
  • Strong understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing fundraising activities
  • Experience in recruiting, training and managing people
  • Experience with fundraising and relationshipmanagement databases (Raiser's Edge preferred) and research tools
  • Master's degree with emphasis in Nonprofit Management, Public Policy, Social Work
