Shelter Manager
Position Description:
The Shelter Manager ensures a safe, secure environment in the Shelter which provides emergency housing for homeless individuals and families.
Shelter manager responsible to supervise shelter staff to ensure adherence to shelter policies and guide staff to successfully meet program grant requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee and participate in the intake process. Ensuring completion of intake paperwork and maintenance of resident files.
- Conducting interviews with screened applicants, review records and make decisions regarding acceptance into the program.
- Coordinate with Intake Coordination, Rapid Rehousing and Hunger Prevention to ensure seamless service delivery to clients.
- Assist shelter staff in setting goals with residents to outline steps needed to attain goals utilizing the "Housing First Model".
- Coordinate educational classes at the Shelter. Enlist and schedule instructors from the community to teach classes and/or serve as the instructor for classes at the Shelter.
- Become familiar with area social services and refer residents to services outside as needed.
- Reinforce Shelter Guidelines and Resident responsibilities with residents and staff.
- Conduct regular meetings with Shelter staff and residents.
- Maintain effective working relationships with community partners, continuing education, and community education.
- Work closely with Human Resources regarding Shelter staff.
- Provide oversight of Case Management duties.
- Hiring, training, supervision, and management of Shelter staff.
- Intervene as necessary in crisis situations.
- Cooperate with police and other medical and/or mental health/substance abuse agencies as needed for safe operation of the Shelter.
- Oversee ordering of necessary supplies and equipment.
- Ensures daily duties are completed amongst staff.
- Oversee that the facility is maintained in a safesanitary way working closely with Facility Coordinator to ensure licensing/permitting and Department of Health guidelines are met.
- Respond to community requests for information on coordination and education.
- Ensure that contract and grant requirements for shelter operations are met.
- Comply with necessary training and certificates pertaining to policies.
- Perform other related duties and assignments as requested or assigned.

Salary:
$54, $59,000.00
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in social services or related field.
- 3+ years managerial experience in social services or related field.
- Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with clients, colleagues, and volunteers.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently in a fastpaced environment treating clients with respect and dignity.
- Ability to manage crisis situations.
- Physical requirements: Must be able to type at a desk, walk premises and lift between 10 and 20 pounds
This position requires satisfactory approval through the DCF level II background check process by the state of Florida and will require renewal every 5 years.
