- Builds capacity to maintain or improve sustainable practices, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, responsible sourcing, recycling, water conservation, alternative power sources, promoting employee well-being, partnering with nonprofit organizations, and educating employees about sustainability issues.
- Coordinates the development of the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan and data collection strategy.
- Develops Environmental Equity Steering Committee, work group structures, and outreach to support economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
- Collaborates with City departments and outside agencies to advocate, facilitate, and advance Cheyenne's energy economy.
- Assists with the development, funding, and execution of energy projects, supports the transition of innovative technologies and practices, and works to leverage energy resources to benefit Cheyenne.
- Develops and promotes policies and initiatives to ensure sustainable use of Cheyenne's energy resources.
- Fosters partnerships and open communication with City departments, outside agencies, and community organizations to achieve shared objectives.
- Assists City Communications Task Force team in messaging green energy initiatives.
- Establishes a strategy, develops, and maintains relationships with external stakeholders to expand sustainability work beyond traditional boundaries.
- Maintains grant related action plan records, assist with reports, and audits.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Thorough knowledge of sustainability principles and practices incorporating energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to analyze, visualize, and communicate complex data sets in simplified formats for reporting and tracking program performance and improvement.
- Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and represent ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Ability to exercise reasonable judgement in decision making.

- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in environmental studies, sustainability, environmental sciences, or related field and
- Two (2) years of experience in climate and sustainability programs; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities, and skills.
- Experience with Federal Grants.
- Have a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Green Associate certification.
- Have a minimum of three years of sustainability or business experience.
- Have broad knowledge and appreciation of the key aspects of sustainable development, with a particular emphasis on life sciences and the associated business impacts.

*This is a grant funded position for four (4) years that may become permanent
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Identifies and implements opportunities to improve environmental health and economic vitality, improve energy efficiency, and promote sustainable practices. Work involves responsibility for assisting in developing, implementing, and tracking energy and sustainability programs and grant related priorities. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative superior.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Required:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading, and writing. The employee is also required to maintain physical condition necessary for operating assigned equipment, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending or sitting for prolonged periods of time and lifting to 30 pounds. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
Working Environment:
Work closely with others in an office environment utilizing a computer and other office equipment and occasional remote work related to presentations to outside agencies and community groups.
