Description

The Industrial Hazardous Waste Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the inbound and outbound product, recycling, and waste profiles for all assigned facilities.

In addition, this position will be responsible for heading the IHW program which entails training, compliance, and establishing BMPs/SOPs.

This position will be on the EHS team and will be expected to lead by example, following all Corporate EHS policies and procedures.


JOB DUTIES

  • Provide environmental and potential waste stream assessments of the SDSs of commodities that was last contained in containers to be shipped to VLS Rail facilities for cleaning or repair.
  • Act as the main interface for the Operational team in the evaluation of product or waste streams and ensuring facilities are compliant with IHW regulatory requirements as a LQGs.
  • Coordination of submitting, renewing, and amending profiles for wastes and recyclable streams shipped outbound from VLS facilities.
  • Interfacing with various outlets to determine if material can be reused or recycled. When not feasible, determining the most costeffective way of disposing waste streams.
  • Conducting sampling and shipping of material when necessary.
  • Handling the logistics of shipping outbound material.
  • Review and confirm waste manifests, shipping documents, as well as certificates of disposal, recycling, and destruction.
  • Ensure the inventory logs of waste streams and products are accurate and kept up to date on a weekly basis.
  • Maintaining documentation of outbound shipments for regulatory compliance, reporting, and ESG metrics; and
  • Auditing of thirdparty disposal and recycling facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science degree with significant coursework in Chemistry, Bioenvironmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or other engineering/science discipline.
  • Two to five years' experience in the Environmental/IHW field, with an emphasis in the areas of waste and wastewater management through either onthejob training or coursework. Manifesting and profiling hazardous and nonhazardous waste experience required.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor of Science degree, an Associate degree along with significant years) and relevant work experience in the EHS field;
  • Knowledge of chemical incompatibilities and ability to recognize indicators of unstable chemicals through visual inspection and take the appropriate response actions.
  • RCRA and DOT regulatory compliance experience required.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, including formatting documents, creating presentations, document management and managing spreadsheets.
  • Ability to successfully complete preemployment drug & alcohol screen, preemployment physical examination, and background check upon receiving an offer of employment.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and driving history satisfactory with VLS standards, and its insurer.
  • Some travel and fieldwork will be required in order to satisfy the requirements of the position 25% or less.
