    Position Summary


    The Nursing Program Director will effectively promote the programs to their highest achievement while meeting the challenge of remaining inclusive to all.

    As the College continues to grow and develop so will the nursing and allied health programs. Opportunities for growth are often found in response to crises withinor demands fromthe community at large.

    The position must be flexible and compassionate, as well as being dedicated to preserving all that is integral to the profession of nursing.

    The single most important quality for the program director is the ability to delicately and respectfully lead faculty and students to perform their roles to the very best of their individual capacities.

    The Director of Nursing (the nurse administrator) shall the institutional authority and administrative responsibility for the Nursing Program (OAR

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    Leadership & Supervision


    • Provides administrative leadership, and regulatory compliance through a shared governance management style, for the Associates Degree in Nursing.
    • Recruits staff who actively uphold and support the high standards of the programs and recommends faculty appointment, promotion, and retention; Supervises all department staff in accordance with negotiated agreements, personnel policies, and procedures and support faculty in developing and maintaining competence in assigned teaching responsibilities (OAR s)(a); the nurses administrator and each faculty member shall periodically review assigned teaching responsibilities, evaluating and revising professional development plans as indicated (OAR S)(a).
    • Reviews, modifies, and approves staffing patterns and workloads for the Nursing departments. Develop Nursing and Heath sciences programs schedules.
    • Supervise instruction within the Nursing department by maintaining appropriate contact and meeting the requirements of accrediting agencies (OSBN, OHA, etc.) Maintain quality assurance to remain compliant with all required agencies. Prepare for on-site reviews by the accrediting agencies.
    • Administers the departments according to the policies and procedures of the institution and all clinical/practicum sites; Ensures compliance with collective bargaining agreements and represents the college as to policy, procedures and priorities including faculty and staff performance evaluations.
    • Creates and maintains an environment conducive to teaching and learning by supporting faculty assignments and fostering creativity, change, risk-taking, caring and professionalism among staff and students.
    • Facilitates the professional development of faculty
    • Motivates and encourages faculty and staff to actively participate in continuous improvement activities in order to facilitate delivery of effective, high-quality instruction for students and services to internal and external customers.
    • Holds regular department meetings.
    • Provides strong leadership and represents the departments through a participatory management style, team-building activities, and problem-solving techniques.
    • Builds, promotes and leads effective teams to support the instructional and service mission of the college; uses effective interpersonal skills to empower staff in the performance of their work; maintains a working knowledge of all negotiated agreements, institutional policies and regulations and procedures; may participate in collective bargaining with employee associations as a representative of the college.
    • Provides leadership in and contributes to the college's diversity commitment, by fostering an environment of cooperation between students, staff and the public who represent a variety of cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
    • Oversees coordination for skills lab, simulation lab, nursing and allied health classrooms including technology needs and nursing program faculty scheduling.
    • Provides student support and guidance to ensures that policies and procedures are followed throughout the nursing program.
    • Provides direction to meet and maintain accreditation standards.
    • Demonstrate professional competence and continued development in nursing, nursing education and assigned teaching responsibilities (OAR
    Initiates, develops, and writes grant proposals to support programs and implementation of projects.

    Instructional Management & Support


    • Responds to trends in the profession, students' needs to succeed, and staff needs to attain high professional standards in the program; Provides leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing and allied health care programs- including curriculum and instructional delivery.
    • Provides direction for curriculum updates and program standards that meet accreditation requirements for health care programs; Serves as liaison with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
    • Oversees the program's continuing compliance with the regulations including but not limited to: maintain applicable records and information for OSBN/NREMT/CBAAM approval activities; prepare and submit the OSBN Annual Report and other reports as required by regulatory agencies; submit faculty appointment application forms to OSBN as part of nursing faculty hiring process and notify OSBN when and instructors resigns their position and attend OSBN Directors' meeting as scheduled.
    • Serves as coordinator of the Nursing Program Advisory Board and work collaboratively with other industry and education partners.
    • Maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive and confidential information.
    • Provide leadership with the Nursing Admissions Committee and in the development of policy and procedures for selecting students from the annual pool of nursing student applicants and annually review and modify those policies as necessary.
    College Collaboration & Community Liaison


    • Functions effectively as a team member at department, division, and college-wide levels and participates in institutional policy and program decisions, Liaison with executive administrators and administrative and student service units of the college.
    • Facilitates effective communication between staff and students, between programs and the college, and between programs and the community; represents department programs and promotes their needs within the college and the community; develops and facilitates collaborative partnerships with clinical/practicum sites, services providers, school districts, and colleges/universities.
    • Participates in the marketing of the Nursing Program through preparation of materials through a variety of venues which made include the college catalog, schedule of classes, program website content and press releases in coordination with the college's marketing department.
    • Recruits clinical sites from within Lincoln County. - Prepare clinical contracts and continually meet requirements for state and national regulations. Assure qualified preceptors at each clinical facility are selected in collaboration with clinical partners and clinical site managers.
    Budget Oversight & Reporting


    • Advocates for department requests as budget is prepared, authorizes expenditures, and monitors department budget.

    SUPERVISES THE FOLLOWING STAFF
    This position will supervise full time and part time faculty, staff and student employees.

    Requirements


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution with documentation of preparation and/or experience in curriculum and teaching [OAR a)(A)].
    • Five (5) years of nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a nurse educator or administrative position in a nursing education program [OAR a)(B)].
    • Licensure and other Credentials: Current unencumbered Oregon R.N. License.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Post-Master's degree in Education or Doctoral degree in Nursing or in Education. Recent clinical experience.
    • Ability to meet Oregon State requirements for clinical instructors in an Oregon facility.
    • Experience in Associate Degree Nursing Program.
    Approval by the OSBN to be the nurse administrator of the Nursing Program is requisite to holding this position. If the applicant is selected, application will be made to the OSBN. Approval by the OSBN must be received before definitive offer of the position to the applicant will be confirmed.

    Knowledge of the following state agencies who govern the certificates, degrees, and programs at the community college level:
    the Oregon State Board of Education and the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC). Ability to develop and maintain a program which meets those requirements and standards.

    • Willingness to work and/or travel on a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.
    • Ability to stay current in the field through professional development and self-study.
    • Ability to use computer technology for management and instructional purposes.
