General Description:
The Controls Technician 2 will work in conjunction with the maintenance, production and engineering departments. The primary job responsibility is to support production through effective and timely equipment downtime troubleshooting. Develop and implement equipment process improvements through the use of technology and automation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following activities. Some duties may be optional on an individual basis. If there is a question about responsibilities or authorities, resolve the issue with the Director of Maintenance.
The Controls Technician 2 will report directly to the Controls Engineer or Maintenance Supervisor in the facility for which they are assigned.
For emergency manufacturing and maintenance support, the automation technician may receive direction from the director of maintenance or plant manager(s).
The Controls Technician 2 will implement equipment and/or process improvements through the effective use of PLC's, servo or variable speed drives, camera technology, robotic technology and any other resource(s) available to him/her.
Daily communication and interface with suppliers will be required. This position is expected to effectively team with suppliers and original equipment manufacturers and will appropriately represent Tarkett.Assist the maintenance staff in operational debug of machine controllers, motion systems, robotics, HMI's, and all other related components in a timely and efficient manner utilizing Tarkett standard techniques and approach.
The Controls Technician 2 will train lesser experienced electricians and mechanics, thus improving the overall department skills and abilities.Assist the appropriate engineer in machine validation, both internally and at the customer's facility while maintaining Tarkett work ethics and standards.
Communicate with the project "team" to ensure a constant level of project awareness.The Controls Technician 2 will work closely with the controls engineer, who is responsible for ensuring all schematics and/or back up programs of PLC's, HMI, camera systems, etc, are kept current and correct.
Attend certain technical training classes, as deemed necessary by the Maintenance Supervisor, Controls Engineer or Director of Maintenance, and pass this knowledge along to peers and/or electrical maintenance personnel.
The Controls Technician 2 is expected to be a self-starter, stay focused and on task with little or no supervision.
The ability to conceptualize, design, build and implement simple to moderate control systems and manufacturing equipment.Employee General Requirements:

Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be physically and mentally able to perform each duty satisfactorily. This position will work overtime when required by the project timeline or to support manufacturing.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or - 7 years related experience and/or technical training in PLC's, HMI's, VFD's and electrical controls; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
He or she must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, electrical schematics, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondences; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
He or she must have the ability to calculate electrical ratios, in addition to figures and amounts such as proportions, ratios, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
He or she must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hand and eye coordination, use hand/air/electrical power tools, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and listen.
Additional Skills
Experience in AutoCAD; moderate to extensive experience in Allen Bradley PLC (RSLogix 5000), Siemens PLC's, various vision systems, HMI programming and robotic programming/de-bug experience.
The employee must perform his/her job functions while observing Tarkett safety standards and regulations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to risk of injury.
The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes and airborne particles.
