Service Technician Mechanic
Reports to Service Manager


Nature of Work


To complete equipment & machinery installation & service at customer facilities in national & international locations by effective use of personal skills and completing assignments in accordance with directions, drawings and specifications.

Also repair and maintain all equipment at customer site and make sure they are in good working condition with no safety hazards.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accomplish equipment assembly, installation, and service by accurate interpretation of drawings and specifications, completing quality checks and assuring that specified requirements are achieved.
  • Meet customer delivery expectations by completing machine/equipment startup, customer orientation and initial operator training in accordance with Sierra International Machinery quality system procedures.
  • Accomplish schedules by planning work, selecting proper tools and equipment while maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
  • Meet customer service expectations by interpreting customer service questions, diagnosing conditions and developing corrections, identifying replacement components and implementing solutions to machine breakdowns.
  • Communicate and report results as directed by the Service Manager or General Service Manager.
  • Contribute to team effort by adhering to company policies and completing related duties as needed.
  • Inspect, diagnose equipment conditions and identify repairs needed along with parts needed to complete job.
  • Perform repairs in a safe efficient manor following all safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
  • Equipment and Tool Selection
  • Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing components and part upgrades; controlling corrosion.
  • Corrects equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, subassemblies, components, parts, or systems, electrical, air conditioning, hydraulics; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages.
  • Verifies equipment performance by conducting test operations; adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complies with federal and state Safety requirements by testing, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Performs or Delegates equipment cleaning, washing, and painting.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintains supplies; performing preventive maintenance; communicating to customer needed repairs.
  • Contains costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options.
  • Maintains company provided equipment this includes keeping the service truck clean inside and out along with keeping the maintenance done.
  • As required to keep the vehicle ready to always travel, such as clean, fueled up, serviced, and stocked up.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge and Skills


The Service Technician Mechanic must be able to interact with customers, employees, management, and vendors in oral and written communications.

This position requires that the person be able to read and interpret manuals for different equipment, must be mechanically inclined and pay close attention to detail.

Continually this position requires the Mechanic to work independently with minimum supervision and be very accurate. The Mechanic will frequently perform repetitive work and continually has deadlines to meet.


Minimum Qualifications
Must have a High school diploma or equivalent. Must have at least 2 to 5 years mechanical experience working on equipment, hydraulics. Diesel engine knowledge a plus. Must be able to use mechanical tools. Must be able to read and interpret manuals for different makes and models of equipment.

Must be insurable by the company's auto insurance, possess a valid driver license, and have a valid passport along with be able to travel in and out of the United States along with other countries.
