About the Role:

As a
Human Resources Generalist, you will have the opportunity to facilitate the daily functions of the Human Resources (HR) department, including hiring and interviewing of staff, administering benefits and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.

What You'll Do:

The HR Generalist is responsible for completing a variety of tasks across all HR functional areas, including recruitment and selection, orientation and onboarding, benefits, compensation, employee relations, HR compliance, training and development, and Human Resource Information System (HRIS) administration.

You'll collaborate with other members of the HR Team to support the following areas:


  • Recruiting, interviewing, and facilitating the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborating with directors and managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Implementing new hire orientation and employee recognition programs
  • Performing routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development
  • Handling employmentrelated inquiries from applicants, employees, and managers, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff
  • Developing, coordinating, and/or conducting new employee orientations or other training sessions; reviewing, tracking, and documenting compliance with mandatory and nonmandatory training and development activities
  • Maintaining tracking and reporting for various HR metrics, including those related to recruitment, retention, and training
  • Identifying, developing and implementing strategies and activities related to employee engagement and retention
  • Processing and maintaining all personnel files and documentation while ensuring confidentiality
  • Responding to and investigating issues, such as harassment, impairment, or other employee concerns
  • Administering staff benefits, including notifications, enrollment, elections, education, bill reconciliation and carrier payments
  • Adhering to the policies and procedures as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Administering FMLA, ADA, and Workers' Compensation to ensure compliance
  • Maintaining current knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
  • Preparing and submitting required government reporting and participating in audits

What You Bring:
This role requires the following education, experience, skills and abilities:

  • At least one year of experience as an HR Generalist on a dedicated Human Resources team
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize tasks and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Effective communication skills in English

Nice-to-Haves: It's a bonus if you have one or more of the following:

  • SHRM-CP and/or PHR certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Previous experience working with labor unions or management contracts
