POSITION GOAL:

To provide support that focuses on the academic, social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of students and to prepare students for post-secondary education, employment or training, and independent living.


DUTIES:


  • Under supervision of licensed teacher, prepares for classroom activities.
  • Works with small groups of students to reinforce material assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists individual children who need specific assistance to achieve the objectives of their IEP, the assistance is under the direction of the teacher.
  • Assists teachers with noninstructional classroom duties.
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and makeup work.
  • Assists with reading and storytelling.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during lunch periods, assemblies, play periods, and other activities.
  • Supervise lunchroom and playground activities as assigned.
  • Participates in professional development programs.
  • Work with individual students or small/large groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Help students with instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist with the supervision of students in all schooldirected activities assigned.
  • Assist with small/large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and story
- telling.

  • Assist students in the library or media center.
  • Assist in recording student attendance.
  • Help students with their clothing.
  • Assist with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
  • Assist with washup and toilet routines (which may include diapering).
  • Serve as a source of information/assistance for substitute teachers.
  • Assist in the collection of student progress data, including implementing assessments.
  • Obtain and maintain appropriate certification in crisis intervention as directed by principal, superintendent, or director of student services.
  • Maintain safe learning environment by enforcing all school and classroom expectations and implementing appropriate crisis intervention strategies (only when trained in crisis intervention techniques).
  • Maintain the same level of confidentiality of information about students as is expected of certified teachers.
  • Performs such tasks as may be assigned by the principal and/or director of student services.
