Under the direction of the Executive Director of Development, the Associate Director of Development & Alumni Relations is responsible for the planning and execution of alumni programs, services, and communications that engage School of Dentistry alumni with each other and the broader community.

This incumbent will oversee a class reunion giving program to include managing a portfolio and making personal solicitations of alumni, parents and friends at the $1,000-$50,000 level with a projected annual class fundraising campaign goal of $50,000 to $100,000 This individual will also develop and oversee a student giving program with solicitation levels ranging from $100 to $1,000 as well as a regional events program.

The Associate Director will guide the School's effort to develop and nurture mutually supportive relationships between UCLA Dentistry and its alumni and will assist in the continued growth and development of UCLA Dentistry Alumni Association and other alumni advisory boards.

This position will engage UCLA Dentistry constituencies in social activities, fundraising conversations, and assist Dentistry alumni in identifying opportunities for professional growth and development, mentoring, networking for jobs, referral expertise, pre-dental outreach and recruitment, and other mutual benefits.

The Associate Director will also identify new prospects for referral to the annual giving and major gifts teams manage a variety of alumni events.

This individual will ensure that (1) the interests of UCLA Dentistry and its alumni are clearly and positively articulated and become the basis for creating alumni events/activities/services and (2) UCLA Dentistry offers meaningful opportunities for active alumni participation, which strengthen the bonds between alumni and the School to advance the reputation and overall goals and priorities of the School.

This requires the highest level of judgment in developing programs that will result in financial support of the School through programs that will identify and cultivate annual and major donors.

Overall solicitation goals of the Associate Director will be to raise $100,000+ annually.

In addition, the Associate Director's efforts directly support the front line activity of the School of Dentistry fundraising team, which in turn generates approximately million in gifts from individual donors each year.


Salary & Compensation

  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Experience with Blackbaud CRM or equivalent development database and the use of databases to generate reports. (required)
  • Experience conceptualizing, planning and executing special events. (required)
  • Progressive responsibility and experience in an alumni relations, fundraising and/or sales, marketing or business development role. (required)
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of fundraising in a major research university or institution of equivalent complexity with ability to conceptualize and implement successful methods to identify, cultivate and solicit individuals. (required)
  • Engaged, focused and goaloriented with a high level of initiative and energy. (required)
  • Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues. (required)
  • Knowledge of data management sufficient to retrieve data and isolate specific market segments. (required)
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgement, proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations, and reports. (required)
  • Strong verbal communication skills to express the mission of the University and the fundraising goals of the campus especially as they relate to the priorities of the UCLA School of Dentistry in front of large groups as well as oneonone with constituents. (required)
  • Ability to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate the efforts of alumni and volunteers who support development goals and programs. (required)
  • Able to define objectives, identify problems, make appropriate recommendations and incorporate innovative and creative strategies toward achieving department goals. (required)
  • Interpersonal skills to work harmoniously with a wide variety of internal and external constituents. (required)
