West Houston Veterinary Medical Associates is now hiring for a full-time veterinary assistant to join our team

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Animal Care:
- Assist with restraining pets during examinations and procedures.
- Prepare animals for surgery, including shaving and disinfecting areas.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Monitor and report on the condition of animals in recovery or under observation.
- Feed, water, and exercise pets as needed.
- Perform routine laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures.
Clinical Support:
- Set up and clean examination rooms and surgical areas.
- Sterilize instruments and ensure proper sanitation of medical equipment.
- Prepare and maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Assist in collecting samples for lab analysis.
Client Interaction:
- Greet and assist clients in a friendly and professional manner.
- Provide clients with information regarding their pets' health and care.
- Educate clients on preventive care and posttreatment instructions.
- Assist with the intake and discharge process of patients.
Administrative Tasks:
- Schedule appointments and manage the clinic calendar.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and order replacements as needed.
- Handle billing and process payments.
- Answer phone calls and respond to client inquiries.
Facility Maintenance:
- Ensure the clinic is clean, organized, and wellmaintained.
- Perform routine cleaning tasks, including laundry and waste disposal.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for both animals and staff.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Preferred have at least 1 year of veterinary medicine experience
- Certification or coursework in veterinary assisting (preferred but not required)
- Must be a bright, friendly, and effective communicator in order to communicate with clients, visitors, veterinarians, and other hospital staff. (It's okay if you talk to animals, too)
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and move freely for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift 50 squirming pounds
- Must be able to work in a veterinary environment with exposure to infection or contagious diseases
- Basic understanding of animal behavior and healthcare.
- Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
- Detailoriented with strong organizational skills.
