Job Description:
Research Position in Llano, TX

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The efficiency and quality of material processing with ultra-short pulsed lasers can be improved by using spatial beam shaping through Spatial Light Modulators (SLM).

However, in current practice, it is not possible to achieve perfect results, as several system parameters such as crosstalk between neighboring pixels in the beam shaper or aberrations of the optics can only be limitedly considered in the calculation of the beam shape due to their complexity.

Since the experimental characterization and modeling of all system parameters is very time-consuming, "Machine Learning" will be used to optimize the achievable accuracy of a given test system for beam shaping.

The overall goal of the project is to develop a fully interpretable neural network that creates phase masks for beam shaping based on experimental training data.

These phase masks should directly consider system-specific features and properties of the SLM, thus eliminating the time-consuming calibration of the system.

Responsibilities:

  • Independent research activities in the field of beam shaping, including experimental trials and optimization of shaping modeling
  • Writing and publishing scientific papers in renowned journals
  • Establishing and deepening international and interdisciplinary collaborations with companies, universities, research institutions, and professional associations
  • Participation in diverse and challenging tasks within our team
  • Initiating new projects with industrial or government funding
  • Support in teaching activities

Required Qualifications:

  • Aboveaverage degree (M.Sc
