    Position Summary:
    The Director of Communication and Marketing, Office of the Provost, leads the development, creation and management of strategic marketing communications for the academic enterprise. He/she is responsible for managing the various marketing communications needs of the seventeen non-college reporting units that serve the entire University for key academic initiatives.

    The Director is responsible for identifying and developing opportunities that enhance Villanova's overall academic image and reputation in support of the University's mission and strategic goals. He/she manages marketing communications to ensure that all materials align with the University's brand strategy, as well as University and OOP messaging to advance Villanova's strategic objectives.

    The Director oversees a communication team that identifies and assesses opportunities to ensure the OOP/academic enterprise priorities and initiatives, key messages and strategic goals are clearly and consistently conveyed across a wide range of communication channels, including print, digital and social networks, to a broad range of university stakeholders: faculty, students, parents, prospective students.

    The Director works closely with leadership in each of the non-college units that report to the Provost Office—including the research enterprise, teaching and learning, interdisciplinary centers and institutes, Career Center, the Graduate Center for Research and Education, and more—to ensure strategic alignment in communication/marketing efforts. He/she ensures that all messaging and communications resonate with the various constituencies and stakeholders – academic leadership, faculty, students across all degree levels, etc.

    The Director also serves as liaison between leadership in UCM and the academic enterprise, and also collaborates with leaders of UCM functional areas to coordinate and promote OOP goals, programs and strategic initiatives for inclusion in University-wide communications. The Director also serves as a resource to UCM embedded directors for academic enterprise initiatives.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Strategic Marketing Communications for the Academic Enterprise
    Leads the development, creation and management of strategic marketing communications for the seventeen non-college reporting units in the academic enterprise.

    Works closely with leadership in each of the non-college reporting units that report into the Provost Office, including the research enterprise, teaching and learning, interdisciplinary centers and institutes, the Career Center, the Graduate Center for Research and Education and more — to assure strategic alignment in communication/marketing efforts.

    Reputation Management
    Identifies and develops opportunities that enhance Villanova's overall academic image and reputation in support of the University's overall mission and strategic goals.
    Manages marketing communications to ensure that all materials align with the University's brand strategy, as well as University and OOP messaging to advance Villanova's strategic objectives.
    Leadership, Management and Collaboration
    Works closely with the leadership in each of the non-college units that report into the Provost Office to ensure strategic alignment in communications/marketing efforts.
    Serves as liaison with leadership in UCM and the academic enterprise, and also collaborates with leaders of UCM functional areas including, university publications, public relations, marketing and advancement communications, to coordinate OOP goals, programs and strategic initiatives for inclusion in university-wide communications.
    Serves as a resource to UCM embedded directors for academic enterprise initiatives.
    Serves as a University-wide resource for OOP information and expertise as needed.
    Ad Hoc Duties
    Works on special communication/marketing projects for the OOP, participates in joint communication/marketing projects University-wide, and performs communications duties as they arise. May also perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree required.
    Must have 8+ years of relevant experience with a focus on communications, marketing, project management and writing.
    Must be a self-starter who will proactively network, work collaboratively across the academic enterprise, colleges/schools and the University and seek out new and creative ways to strengthen the University's academic reputation.
    Must have strong organizational and project management skills; oral and written communications skills; and interpersonal and teamwork skills.
    Must have the ability to think strategically and creatively; handle changing priorities in a deadline-sensitive environment; handle confidential information with a high level of discretion; work effectively with internal and external leaders, faculty, staff and administrators; and work independently, as well as be a strong team member.
    Must be able to operate effectively in a matrix organization, working across the OOP and UCM areas, as well as throughout the University, to achieve strategic academic priorities.
    Must have the ability to handle multiple projects, priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment.
    The individual must have strong experience in—and understanding of—integrated strategic communications and marketing.

    In addition, the Director must have:
    Excellent writing, project management and strategic communication skills.
    Experience in social media content development and placement.
    Strong verbal and written communications skills with the ability to develop and maintain excellent internal/external relationships.
    Proficient in all standard computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat, as well as social media.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Master's degree preferred.
    Experience in higher education, other non-profits or business is also preferred.
    Villanova work experience is a plus.

    Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
    Must have the ability to work evenings, weekends and possibly holidays as the demands of the job dictate.

    Salary Posting Information:
    Salary is commensurate with experience.
