    **Camp Assistant Cook - Girl Scouts (seasonal)**

    Syracuse, IN **Assistant Cook**The assistant cook works with the head cook to prepare and serve food to campers and staff, and keeps the kitchen area clean and tidy. Other duties include helping unpack and inventory deliveries, and purchasing, preparing, and packing out food for cookouts. The assistant cook is responsible for maintaining the kitchen and food-storage and dining areas so that they meet ACA standards and state health regulations. The ideal candidate will have training in food-service management and be able to help prepare meals for a large number of people, safely work with food-service equipment, and cooperate with fellow staff members. Preferred requirements include current Safe Serve certification and training in food-service management.

    **Position Summary:**

    Assist Head Cook in preparing, serving food and keeping the kitchen clean and orderly.

    **Essential Duties:**

    Assists the head cook prepare and serve meals and cleanup.

    Assist preparing, purchasing, and packing out food for units for cookouts.

    Maintain Kitchen, food storage and dining area to meet ACA standards and state health laws.

    Monitor and maintain freezer and refrigeration temperature levels.

    Assist in unpacking, inventorying and storing deliveries.

    Complete appropriate end-of season reports and procedures, as appropriate.

    Attend and participate as required in pre-camp training, as appropriate.

    Other duties as assigned to meet the Councils goals

    **Education:**

    Current Safe Serve Certification, preferred

    Training in food service management

    **Knowledge and Experience****:**

    Ability to assist preparing meals for large numbers of people.

    Ability to work with food service equipment and maintain a safe and orderly kitchen.

    Ability to work cooperatively with others

    **Physical/Mental Essential Requirements:**

    Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to thirty (30) pounds).

    Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

    Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

    Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

    Occasional need to stand for long periods of time.

    Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product.

    Valid Driver's License

    Insurable under the Councils policy for driving and proof of personal vehicle insurance.

    Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with staff, parents, girls, and volunteers.

    A commitment and passion for the Girl Scout Mission and an ability to effectively promote and communicate the Mission and Vision to external and internal stakeholders.
