    JOB DESCRIPTION:
    PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist the school principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and operations at the campus level. Coordinate assigned activities and services.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


    Instructional Management:
    In coordination with the campus principal participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
    Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate.
    Provide appropriate time, resources, and materials to support staff in accomplishing educational goals.
    Facilitate the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.

    School or Organizational Climate In coordination with the campus principal promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
    Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
    Employ effective interpersonal skills.

    School or Organizational Improvement: In coordination with the campus principal participate in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.

    Assist principal in developing, maintaining, and using appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of computer performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

    Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities.

    Personnel Management: Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff; serve as an appraiser in the PDAS.
    Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orientating new staff.
    Serve as principal in the absence of the regular principal.

    Assist in the administration of the daily organization of the school including class scheduling, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activities.

    Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance supervisor on investigative follow-up actions.
    Work with department heads and faculty in compiling annual budget requests based upon documented program needs.
    Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conduct inventories; maintain records; and verify receipts for such material.
    Cooperate in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
    Assume responsibility for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria and other support services.
    Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board.

    Student Management: Coordinate and provide adequate supervision of students during non-instructional periods.
    Provide input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior.
    Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
    Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.
    Present the students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.

    Professional Growth & Development Take the initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
    Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.

    School / Community Relations Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
    Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
    Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Shares supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal. Supervises teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals and clerical personnel and others when assigned by principal.
    Shares supervisory responsibilities for extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, and other duties, as assigned.

    EQUIPMENT USED: Computers, audiovisual equipment, and other forms of instructional technology and equipment.

    Frequent sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

    Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)


    Environment:
    May work prolonged or irregular hours; work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), exposure to noise; occasional district-wide and statewide travel; ability to transport materials/supplies to be used in presentations and in work sessions with teachers


    Mental Demands:
    Ability to work collaboratively with the campus principal; work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); coordinate district functions; ability to problem solve, to work collaboratively with others and to work on multiple projects/tasks within a given period of time



    EVALUATION:
    This position will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy.
    PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,


    ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
    Three years experience as a classroom teacher
    Three years experience in instructional leadership role, preferred


    REQUIREMENTS:
    Education / Certification: Masters degree
    Mid-management certification
    Certified State/District Appraisal System Appraiser

    Special Knowledge and Skills: Thorough understanding of school administrative operations
    Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
