    Job Title: Regulatory Specialist

    Duration: 6 months (Potential extension)

    Location: Hybrid - Chicago, IL 60642

    Summary:

    As a member of the Scientific & Regulatory Affairs (SRA) team, this role focuses on screening, tracking, and managing regulatory information related to ingredients. Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of ingredient data is crucial for regulatory compliance in final product formulation and labeling. Additionally, leveraging expertise in ingredients and regulations, the incumbent critically evaluates data quality to maintain consistency in ingredient composition, nutrition, and other regulatory aspects. Success in this position hinges on effective stakeholder management and collaboration at both global and regional levels within the SRA function and across departments. Close collaboration with global SRA associates is essential to evaluate performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

    Responsibilities:

    • Screen and approve new ingredients in accordance with established service level agreements to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
    • Obtain updated ingredient information based on business priorities and timelines.
    • Collaborate with regional SRA, R&D, and Specification teams to enhance specification and recipe systems continuously.
    • Monitor key ingredient screening metrics to facilitate continuous improvement efforts.
    • Support regulatory change management by conducting key ingredient searches in the database to assess the impact of regulatory updates.
    • Participate in relevant projects and meetings to communicate progress and identify opportunities for improvement.

    The incumbent applies technical, organizational, and project management skills broadly to screen and approve ingredients, fostering collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders in regional SRA, R&D, and Specification teams. Operating with a high level of independence, based on regulatory knowledge and experience, the incumbent makes decisions and implements best practices to ensure global compliance of ingredients and mitigate regulatory risks.

    Requirements:

    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Food Safety, or Food Process Engineering.
    • Experience: 2-3 years' regulatory affairs experience in the food, beverage, or consumer products industry.
    • International regulatory experience preferred.
    • Strong ownership mentality with a sense of urgency and a proactive, positive attitude.
    • Proficient critical thinking skills, capable of independent operation.
    • Demonstrated competence in team collaboration, with strong organizational and complex problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, self-directed, forward-thinking, with the ability to make recommendations based on limited information.
    • Quick adaptability, aptitude for learning on the fly, and comprehension of complex processes and concepts.
    • Ability to challenge existing workflows to develop innovative solutions.
