Description: The Respiratory Therapist embodies the values, vision, and mission of NM, abides by the company's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and upholds all relevant policies and procedures. The respiratory therapist (RT) works as part of the clinical team to evaluate, manage, treat, and conduct diagnostic assessments for patients in need of respiratory care services. Responsibilities: - Conduct patient assessments and interpret clinical data essential for delivering top-notch patient care - Implement and assess the care plan for respiratory procedures, including aerosol and secretion mobilization therapies - Provide care for patients relying on ventilator support, advanced respiratory devices, and procedures - Manage ventilators comprehensively and monitor the cardiopulmonary status of patients undergoing intensive respiratory care - Maintain emergency airway equipment for patients with artificial airways - Conduct diagnostic tests on patients as per departmental policies and physician orders - Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, participating in daily patient rounds to ensure consistent, high-quality patient care - Aid physicians in bedside procedures - Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in a patient's respiratory condition - Handle airway emergencies, trauma situations, and cardiac arrests - Complete all patient charting documentation accurately and in compliance with department and NMH standards. Additional Functions - Demonstrate clinical proficiency - Take appropriate actions to meet the needs of patients and their families - Monitor and document patient responses to therapies and progress towards goals - Serve as a role model and resource for new staff, students, and other NMH team members, assisting in training and orientation - Collaborate with all hospital services to efficiently carry out daily tasks and foster a culture of excellence - Assist in formulating clinical research protocols and participate in their execution Qualifications: Required: - Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) - National Board of Respiratory Care - Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) - Illinois Department of Professional Regulation (within three months of hire) - Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (for adult care therapists) - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - American Academy of Pediatrics (for neonatal therapists) - Associate Degree in Applied Science (AAS) in Respiratory Therapy Preferred: - Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board of Respiratory Care - Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) - National Board of Respiratory Care - Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) - National Board of Respiratory Care - Bachelor's or Master's Degree Equal Opportunity Northwestern Medicine is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion in its workforce, providing fair employment opportunities regardless of age, gender, race, religion, national origin, gender identity, veteran status, disability, or sexual orientation.
