conducts research, education, and advocacy to support and expand legal protections and collective self-determination for low-wage Black, Brown, Indigenous, Immigrant, and other oppressed workers.

Job Overview


The Operations Manager is the strategic operations and financial partner to the WRI's leadership team on how to use the Institute's resources and designing, implementing, and overseeing operational procedures and will serve a key role in advancing the Workers' Rights Institute's mission by enabling the smooth functioning of the Institute.


They are the primary contact for the Institute's financial, operational, and administrative processes - including day-to-day oversight and management of all financial, operational, and administrative needs, liaising with the Law Center and University business departments, administering information systems technology (IST) and human resources (HR), and coordinating with development offices on gift management and fundraising activities.

These processes include grant management and reporting, fiscal management, scheduling, data management, and human resources support, including hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes.

As well, the Operations Manager designs/maintains internal operational systems - updating them as necessary.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation


Reporting WRI's Faculty Director, the Operations Manager works in close partnership with the leadership team of the Institute; and interacts with all of the Institute's staff, as well as university officials including Centers and Institutes, Finance, IST, Office of Research Services, Development, and HR teams; and work externally with foundation program officers, donor advisors, and other funders.

Additionally, they handle confidential and sensitive information, including salary and HR information.

This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position's mode of work designation.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in administration, operations, finance, human resources, grant management or similar
  • Highly organized, detailoriented working style
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Experience with Workday
  • High level of experience with Excel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Selfdriven work ethic, initiative, and strong capacity for collaboration
Preferred Qualifications

  • Program management experience
  • Experience in democratic/shared governance workplaces
  • A strong commitment to the Institute's mission
The expected pay range for this position is $54, $95,000.00 per year.
