Job Summary:


Enlace Street Outreach Workers program's goal is to use a comprehensive set of targeted mediation strategies to recognize and prevent conflict within our community.

Enlace focuses and houses the staff that implements the street intervention model through various sources of programming.

We work in the Little Village community and focus on the reduction of violence through community mobilization, detecting violent incidents, preventing retaliation, communicating with hospital responses, facilitating planning, implementing target area strategy and mentoring participants to a positive path.

Street Outreach Supervisor


Accountable to:
Executive Director, Violence Prevention Director, and Violence Intervention Program Manager


Communicates with:
Community partners, neighborhood stakeholders, parents, and participants


Informs:
Little Village community


Duties and Responsibilities:

To prevent shootings in the neighborhood assigned, the Street Outreach Workers have the following responsibilities:

  • To know and support those most prone to violence in the community
  • Work to intervene in circumstances in which violence is likely, including possible retaliation
  • Work to understand why a shooting happened and how to prevent them in the future
  • Develop strategies and understand trends to be better informed about potential community violence
  • Work to gain the trust of the community and those that live the cycle of street violence so that they know the role of Street Outreach Workers
  • Mentor a caseload of a minimum of 5 participants through life skill challenges
  • Assisting event planning and programing organizing
  • Knowing when to call for assistance when situations require it

Job duties are as follows:


  • Be responsive to the Street Outreach Lead and Supervisor's requests and needs
  • Continuously keep Street Outreach Lead and Supervisor informed of what is going on in the community and with the program
  • Outreach to the community (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with youth, residents, businesses, and community groups
  • Identify a caseload of youth who are street involved, provide mentorship,case management to aid in solving current problems and preventing future ones
  • Serve as linkages and support for individuals to enhance their assistance and use of opportunities and programs in the community (e.g., jobs, GED, drug treatment, counseling) through a Case manager referral
  • Advocate for youth through court testimonies, when necessary
  • Participate, as necessary, in organizing responses to shootings and increasing communities working for peace's visibility when shootings/ killings take place
  • Develop networks with other outreach program workers to coordinate strategic responses to violence;
  • Mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups
  • Work with the community, outreach programs, to gain information that may help prevent violence
  • Identify hot spots and activate them with positive loitering / day to day canvassing
  • Respond to shootings in other communities, when necessary
  • Document detailed client case notes
  • Facilitate youth programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • Experience working with youth most prone to violence, court involved and gang involved
  • Excellent communication skills in multiple settings
  • Experience or training in crisis intervention
  • Knowledge of Little Village community and key individuals
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Vehicle required for shooting response, victim response, and canvassing purposes.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license, insurance, and good driving record
  • A positive reputation in the community, such as a license to operate in the targeted area

Compensation:

Annual Salary for this position is 42k -45k, based on experience; comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, life, and short and long term disability insurance, 403b retirement options, and generous paid time off.

Requirements:

Enlace Chicago staff are required to provide proof of vaccination or have an approved medical exemption prior to starting employment.
