Overview:

Responsible for responding to requests by the nursing staff or physician staff to assist and to assist with emergency care within the emergency department according to protocols and polices approved by the hospital and emergency department medical director, and hospital policy.

Performs other duties related to the provision of care as assigned after appropriate training.

Responsibilities:

Responds to requests for Emergency Department Technician level services from areas within the emergency department in a timely and safe manner.

Completes documentation and records according to department policy.

Ensures emergency preparedness equipment is ready for response at all times.

Assists with codes and critical care patients within the emergency department at the Emergency Department Technician level, including interdepartmental transport and monitoring.

The Emergency Department Technician performs assigned duties in the emergency department under the supervision of Nursing with documentation of proper training and skills evaluation.

Assists charge nurse and/or triage nurse in data collecting, patient flow and assists in reassessing vital signs for patient waiting to be seen.

Responsibilities may include assisting EMS providers with supply restocking in accordance with hospital agreements with individual providers.

Pursues new levels in Emergency Room Technician technology and participates in activities which contribute to professional growth and development.

Participates in community activities, which improve the public's understanding of the EMS system.

Attends all required safety training programs and can describe role responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.

Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
**Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter
- and interdepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.**Qualifications:Minimum Education High School Graduate or equivalent Minimum Work Experience

Minimum of one full-time experience preferred as a provider of pre-hospital care in an emergency setting preferred (Emergency Room Technician level preferred).

Required Licenses/Certifications

Current EMT registration in the state or 3 years acute care experience in an emergency room.

Current BLS certification from American Heart Association Course Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Basic computer skills, customer service
