Performs a variety of tasks to support the day-to-day operations of the Bristol Health Medical Care Center (MCC) including routine housekeeping and cleaning duties, working with floor machines within the facility.

Receives and manages the flow and delivery of all incoming and outgoing mail/packages ensuring timely receipt by addressees. Performs routine rounds of the property exterior and parking lots to maintain a clean, and safe environment. Also performs various moving and lifting functions and the transportation of services between facilities. Acts as a liaison between the MCC and the main campus. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Cleans and disinfects assigned areas.

  • Cleans offices, examining rooms, public and patient lavatories, lounges, or other assigned areas; including halls, stairways, elevators, floors, furniture, and the inside of windows and doors.
  • Cleans MCC equipment as assigned, with a minimum of interpretation to area activities. Follow strict procedures to maintain a sanitary condition.
  • Uses various types of equipment in providing floor care, including floor buffers, automatic scrubbers, vacuums, mops and carpet extractors.
  • Performs a wide variety of cleaning tasks including wheelchairs, and other medical equipment/devices.
  • Maintains janitor's closets in a neat and orderly manner and restocks storage areas when necessary.
  • Walks the property at least once per day to pick up trash and report on any needs
Removes trash from assigned areas.

  • Empty and washes waste receptacles including medical waste in resident's rooms, exam rooms, and other assigned areas.
  • Collects and removes trash, including medical waste, from assigned areas and delivers to the holding area for final disposal by a contracted service.
  • Maintains equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Performs safety-related duties.

  • Detects and reports defective materials, equipment, or questionable matters to proper supervision
  • Follows the rules and regulations concerning the handling of medical waste, including the wearing of gloves during all cleaning procedures and waste removal.
  • Mixes chemicals properly and follows other rules of safety.
  • Checks and fills sand barrels, as required.
  • Complies with all Hospital and departmental safety and related rules and regulations.
  • Remains available for callin to deal with emergencies or other unusual circumstances.
  • Performs a variety of maintenance, repair, and related tasks in other trade areas, as assigned and in keeping with qualifications, to expedite completion of projects
  • Performs additional related duties, as assigned.
Transports materials as needed.

  • Lifts and transports furniture and equipment to various areas of the facility, and transports medical or other records to permanent storage or other areas, as instructed.
  • Sets up and breaks down furniture for various meetings and delivers various items such as VCRs as instructed.
  • Completes prepared forms to report specified tasks accomplished, such as the moving of equipment.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor.
  • Brings daily deliveries to the building to the appropriate department

Educational / Minimum Requirements:


  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred but not required
  • State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:
  • Current valid driver's license

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:


  • General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually.
  • Attends all GSA update training and hazardous material training annually and passes the tests associated with such training

Physical Requirements:

Light to medium and occasional heavy lifting in excess of 50 lbs. Works in aw
