    Job Description:

    Kansas City University has an open position for Chair of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences on the Kansas City campus. The Chair provides overall leadership to the department and is accountable to fulfill the education, service, and scholarly activity objectives of the COM as well as facilitate the development of the faculty they supervise. This position has responsibility to ensure the educational standards are maintained for accreditation and to manage the department's budget. Working with their counterpart in Joplin, the Chair facilitates the planning and evaluation of the departmental curriculum and assures that departmental course offerings effectively support the COM educational mission that includes integrating and delivering anatomical and pathological sciences to students. The Chair additionally oversees the KCU gift body program and anatomy laboratory on the Kansas City campus. Moreover, the chair continually broadens the vision of all department functions and services in support of the college's strategic mission, vision, and core values.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Set long-term goals of the department
    • Define the financial, physical, and human resources needed for the department to meet its responsibilities
    • Develop budget recommendations for the department and oversee their usage
    • Recruit, manage, evaluate, promote, and retain excellent faculty, and act to ensure their continued professional development
    • Facilitate planning and evaluation of the departmental curriculum and assure that curricular offerings effectively support the COM educational mission
    • Understand accreditation standards and expectations specific to the department and adhere to policies and procedures to meet or exceed such standards
    • Assist the leadership in accreditation functions to include document creation, data collection, education of faculty on accreditation, and other accreditation-related functions
    • Provides oversight for the gift body program, anatomy laboratory, and cadaver program
    • Participate in university and college level service activities, including but not limited to committees and student advising
    • Develop anatomical sciences continuing education activities
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with other KCU personnel, colleges, and its external partners
    • Work with and lead teams in order to solve problems by analyzing issues and creating action plans
    • Actively participate in school-related committees as appropriate
    • Collaborate with KCU leadership in meeting the mission of the University
    • Maintain or exceed levels of teaching and scholarship agreed upon with the Kansas City Campus and Executive Deans
    Qualifications:
    • PhD, DO, or MD degree from an accredited institution appropriate to the department role
    • At least five years' experience as a faculty member at the associate professor level or equivalent in a related area of responsibility at an accredited medical school in the United States
    • Strong ability to work collaboratively with leaders of various disciplines in the advancement of medical education
    • Extensive professional experience with an exemplary record of achievement and leadership
    • Experience with gift body and cadaver programs
    • Excellent verbal, written and group presentation skills
    • Ability to work effectively with public and private organizations
    Physical Requirements:
    • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead
    • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting
    • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer and/or conduct teaching activities in an anatomy laboratory for extended periods of time (4 or more hours)
    • Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions
