    Job Summary


    Responsible for the efficient patient flow through out the assigned Hospital taking into consideration the patients physical condition, the admitting physicians requirements, the referring physicians needs and the institutions resources and scheduling capabilities and assuring adequate staffing is maintained on nursing units.

    Responsibilities


    • Round on all units and carry mobile phone, beeper and hand-held computer to access teletracking, Medicus and Soarian.
    • Be aware of bed availability, staffing, and acuity on all nursing units, including the ICUs and the Emergency Department.
    • Assure efficient patient flow throughout the hospital, including the following specific areas: From ED to nursing units From ICU to nursing units From nursing units to discharge
    • Assure adequate staffing available throughout the hospital and move staff as appropriate to assure safe and effective staffing for CAMC Memorial as a whole.
    • Communicates and reports situations where an employee is moved from one unit to the other for a retrospective analysis.
    • Respond to complaints and concerns that would otherwise be referred to the Nurse Manager or Administration.
    • Assure transfers are accepted and processed into the hospital in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Meets with Nurse Managers and advises Administrator on call regarding clinical issues in order to achieve optimal outcomes for patients.
    • Works with physicians and charge nurses to resolve clinical and communication problems.
    • Assists charge nurses with identifying, understanding and applying various policies and procedures and privilege lists, and locating appropriate physicians as needed.
    • Mentors, supports and assists charge nurses in complex or critical need situations.
    • Responds to cardiac arrests, helps to facilitate autopsy requests, and coaches continuity of nursing standards.
    • Responds to potential sentinel event occurrences and assists nursing staff with the preservation of relevant equipment, supplies and documentation.
    • Proactive to assure placement of patients timely.
    • Demonstrate positive customer service and co worker relations.
    • Intervene when necessary to improve patient flow.
    • Triage helpline calls and intervene and report to appropriate manager.
    • Contact appropriate call team as needed.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


    Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages.

    Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

    Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.

    Education


    • Bachelor's Degree (Required)
    Experience: 2 Years - Supervisory Role and - 7 Years - Applicable Nursing Experience

    • Registered Nurse (Required)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required) Within 1 year of hireWithin 1 year of hire
