University Controller at Business Office, University of Charleston

About the Job: Join our team as a University Controller at the Business Office of the University of Charleston. As the University Controller, you will play a key role in coordinating, planning, maintaining, and reporting all financial activities of the University. You will be responsible for safeguarding University assets and ensuring proper accounting for non-profit entities.

Essential Responsibilities:

Oversee various financial functions including accounts payable, payroll, taxes, budgeting, and financial reporting.
Maintain internal controls over assets and cash.
Generate timely financial statements monthly, quarterly, and yearly.
Prepare information for end-of-year audits with auditors.
Manage cash flow for university operations.
Review invoices and oversee payment schedules.
Prepare and reconcile endowment transactions.
Collaborate in preparing the university's annual budget.
Interface with investment advisors for asset allocation.
Ensure compliance with federal grant programs.
Assist in tax reporting and filings.
Support reporting needs for university divisions.
Participate in implementing new systems or products.
Manage collection activities and credit/purchasing cards.
Review and file payroll tax returns.
Assist in preparing tax returns and financial reports.
Oversee employee benefits selection and open enrollment.
Prepare financial and regulatory reports for external agencies.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required.
CPA or Master's Degree preferred.
5-7 years of Accounting Experience.
3 years of Supervisory Experience.
Experience in higher education accounting and reporting.
Numerical proficiency, strong organization, and problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge of accounting procedures and financial audits.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Excellent communication skills for internal and external interactions.
