Director/Coordinator of Religious Education:

The parish of St.

John the Baptist which serves the communities of Manayunk, Roxborough and Wissahickon in the City of Philadelphia is seeking a Director or Coordinator of Religious Education for the parish religious education program for children and youth.

The Director/Coordinator of Religious Education is a part time plus position requiring an average of hours per week. Weekends (Sunday) and some evenings are required.


General Description:


The Director/Coordinator of Religious Education is a leader who assists adolescents and children of the parish in their faith formation.

The Director/Coordinator is a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.

The Director/Coordinator must accept and be committed to the teachings of the Catholic Church as they are promulgated in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia under the authority of the Archbishop of Philadelphia.


Requirements:

Requires an educational or full experienced background in Theology/Religious Education (or related field).


Duties and Responsibilities

The Primary Responsibility of the Director/Coordinator of Religious Education is to administer (design, develop, direct, communicate and evaluate) a Parish Religious Education Program for the parish children who belong to Saint John the Baptist and who attend public or non-Catholic private schools


The DRE / CRE:

  • Oversees and directs the development of the Parishes Religious Education Programs (PREP) from Kindergarten through Grade 8 and High School.
  • Recruits, trains and supervises catechists and other volunteers; encourages catechists to obtain Catechetical Certification; conducts meetings as
  • Participates in regional Archdiocesan Office of Catechetical Formation meetings and events.
  • Under the guidance of the pastor, maintains the joint PREP budget & financial records.
  • Maintains the records for PREP including sacramental records and registration
  • Implements the Safe Environment Program for all PREP students, catechist, volunteers and parents.
  • Keeps the pastor informed of current activities, events, issues.
  • Consults with the Pastor, Director of Operations (Scheduling) and Directors for Worship and Parish Music when planning liturgies, devotions,
  • Keeps apprised of local school calendars where parishioners attend when planning sacramental preparations and activities.
  • Prepare PREP students for May Crowning and other auxiliary parish events involving PREP students.
  • Other duties as agreed to and assigned.

Sacramental Preparation:


Under the guidance of the pastor, oversees and directs all sacramental preparation for First Penance, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation and OCIC.


Physical Requirements


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear.

Frequent prolonged use of a computer, driving moderate distances, some lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 20lbs, generally in connection with presentations and group meetings and receiving catechetical supplies, may be necessary.
