The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of State Police, Marine Patrol, has a full-time vacancy for Marine Patrol Officer II.

This position has a 40 hour work week and is non-exempt.


SCOPE OF WORK:

To enforce criminal, boating and all other appropriate laws to ensure public protection and safety, maintain law and order, detect and prevent crimes, apprehend suspects and prosecute violators, and provide security for the State's seacoast and ports.


ACCOUNTABILITIES:


Conduct law enforcement patrols on inland and coastal waters enforcing Federal and State boating laws and rules, and State criminal laws on the water.

Perform regular security checks on critical infrastructure on the State's seacoast.

Participate in the escort of sensitive military and civilian vessels with the purpose of providing security while in transit.


Arrest suspects forcibly, if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints; subdue resisting suspects using maneuvers, approved weapons, and hands and feet in self-defense.


Operate law enforcement vehicles, patrol boats during both day and night; in emergency situations involving high speeds, in congested traffic and in unsafe water conditions caused by factors such as fog, rain, wind, heavy surf, extreme cold (icing conditions), current, ice and snow.

Write investigative and other reports, including sketches, citations, affidavits, complaints and warrants using appropriate grammar, symbols, and mathematical computations.

Prosecute criminal cases in District Court and testify as a witness when necessary.

Inspect private and commercial boats for compliance with Federal and State commercial vessel laws and regulations.

Serve as Field Training Officer for both Marine Patrol Officer Trainees and new personnel assigned to the coast patrol.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Your Experience Counts See Per 405.0- 1.5 Years of additional relevant experience = Associate's Degree _

  • 3 Years of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's Degree _
  • 4.5 Years additional relevant experience = Master's Degree
    Education:

Associate's degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited institute of higher education with major study preferably in criminal justice or the equivalent.


Experience:
No experience required.

Education:
High school diploma or high school equivalency credential.


Experience:
Two years of experience comprised of any one of the following:
A) One year as a full-time certified police officer and one year of honorable military service, either intermittently or full-time, OR

B) Two years as a full-time certified police officer, OR

C) Two years of honorable military service, either intermittently or full-time.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Age/Citizenship: Must be at least 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen either prior to or on scheduled date of examination administration.
  • Eyesight and Hearing: Must have at least 20/100 in each eye uncorrected and corrected to 20/40 (near vision) and 20/30 (distant vision) in each eye and have normal uncorrected depth and color perception.; must possess normal hearing sufficient to enable performance of essential job functions.


Must be able to pass a 50-yard free style swim test or have a current certificate of swimming ability containing this requirement.
