Improve Your Tomorrow (IYT) was founded in 2013 with the mission to increase the number of young men of color (YMOC) to attend and graduate from colleges and universities.

Position Overview:

IYT's Family Engagement fellows position provides a unique type of peer-to peer-experience within IYT's College Academy program.

Family Engagement fellows are current and former parents of IYT students who conduct outreach, workshops and organize activities for other parents to deepen their engagement and commitment to IYT's College Academy program.

Family Engagement fellows are managed by a regional Family Engagement Specialist.


Responsibilities:

- _Family Engagement fellows are assigned a caseload of up to 10 families with the goal of increasing student engagement within IYT_
- _Perform phone-based outreach to IYT College Academy parents to improve student attendance at afterschool programming and IYT signature activities_
- _Conduct Train the Trainer workshops on topics such as "Understanding A-G requirements"_
- _Support in planning for an annual family conference and other IYT's family events_
- _Conduct school site and classroom visits to positively impact chronic absenteeism and negative behavior in the classroom_
- _Conduct home visits for students with high absenteeism or those demonstrating negative behaviors in school in order to understand how to increase engagement_
- _Conduct roundtable discussions with other parents to understand their needs holistically and develop action plans for providing support_
- _Recruit parent volunteers to serve on school-based parent advisory committees_
- _Perform other duties as assigned_


Qualifications:


  • Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or legal permanent resident
  • Must be High school graduate
  • Spanish language skills preferred but not required
  • Ability to commit to meeting service hour requirements
  • Passion and commitment to IYT's mission, vision, and values
  • Possess good organizational skills and complete paperwork promptly.
  • Have a valid driver license (preferred), car preferred

- _Living Stipend Amounts (Pre-Tax):_

- _$230.22 Bi-weekly stipend for 8-10 hours per week commitment_

Length of Service:


  • Term of Service for 710 hours per week begins September 8th, 2024 through June 27th, 2025

Schedule Requirements:


  • Weekly commitments of up to 10 hours on average per week
  • Monday through Fridays between 5:30 7pm
  • Fridays are mandatory for all schedules
  • Including one to two Saturdays per month are required for college tours, teambuilders,
mandatory IYT events and trainings

  • Saturdays will consist of remote service opportunities

_Note:
This is not an hourly job, but a 10-month fellowship program._


Requirements:


  • Clearance from background checks is required for employment, with fingerprinting
expenses covered by IYT

  • All incoming mentors must attend Mentor Fellow Orientation
