Overview:

Under the general supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisor, this role involves performing routine maintenance and custodial work in and around the Public Works Maintenance Facility.


Responsibilities:


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion as there is access to sensitive City facilities and potentially confidential information.
  • Cleans and washes various areas including floors, walls, woodwork, windows, blinds, desks, counter tops, and light fixtures.
  • Dusts surfaces such as sills, baseboards, desks, pictures, and cabinets.
  • Clean and sanitize break rooms, restrooms, and shower facilities, ensuring necessary supplies are stocked.
  • Empties waste baskets, recycling containers, and other trash regularly.
  • Performs spot cleaning, sweeping, dust mopping, and/or damp mopping hard floor surfaces as needed.
  • Vacuums rugs, carpets, furniture, and drapes/blinds on a daily basis.
  • Carries out deep cleaning of carpeted areas using appropriate procedures.
  • Prepares meeting rooms for various events.
  • Manages lighting, door systems, and office security requirements.
  • Changes light bulbs when necessary.
  • Ensures timely ordering and receipt of supplies.
  • Handles snow and ice removal at entry points using appropriate equipment and materials as needed.
  • Reports equipment and facilities requiring maintenance or replacement to the Supervisor.

NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


  • Dedicated to fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Undertakes any other assigned duties.

EXPERIENCE:

Requires some weeks of experience to grasp the cleaning routines and methodologies in the City's offices.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with colleagues, City personnel, contractors, vendors, and addressing public inquiries. Being a reliable team player with the capacity to work independently is essential.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:


Proficiency in operating building maintenance equipment, which may include but is not limited to sweepers, wet vacuums, carpet extractors, floor maintenance machines, stripping machines, and scrubbers.

Ability to determine optimal cleaning solvents and methods for efficient cleaning processes.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


While on duty, employees may stand, walk, handle objects, and reach frequently, and occasionally sit, climb, stoop, kneel, and talk. There might be occasional lifting of items exceeding 40 pounds.

Employees could encounter moving mechanical parts, fumes, chemicals, weather variations, and noise levels, with the exposure varying in intensity.



WORK SCHEDULE:

Flexible hours between 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday based on departmental requirements. Typically, the position will cover six (6) hours from Monday to Thursday and five (5) hours on Fridays.

Working hours may see fluctuations as per departmental needs.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:


  • Reports to: Building Maintenance Supervisor
  • Supervises: No direct supervision responsibilities
