_The Grafton Village Cheese Company produces premium, aged cheddar cheese using traditional methods and milk from local dairy farms. It is a national leader in artisanal cheese making. It is a for profit business of the nonprofit Windham Foundation, based in Grafton, Vt.

The mission of the Windham Foundation is to promote the vitality of Grafton and Vermont's rural communities through its philanthropic and educational programs and the GVCC is an important contributor to these endeavors.

The VP is responsible for supervising and delivering the results required for the planned sales growth of Grafton Village Cheese Company (GVCC).

The position reports to the CEO of GVCC, and manages the sales pipeline, cultivates sales opportunities, develops necessary relationships, leads the overall marketing efforts and generally oversees the sales process and team.

The person appointed will be expected to shape and plan sales strategy and sales goals/objectives. This will include preparing reports and presenting sales data and projections. The VP will professionally represent GVCC to sales targets and the dairy/specialty food industry in general.


Essential Job Functions

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the GVCC history, philosophy, service line offering and services to effectively represent GVCC's products and value proposition to potential clients.
  • Perform research to obtain detailed knowledge of GVCC's targeted new sales prospects.
  • Work with the CEO to rationalize market opportunities and develop a sales plan identifying sales targets for the wholesale channel.
  • Develop and present annual sales plan articulating how sales revenue will be generated from the defined target markets.
  • Clearly, concisely and effectively communicate Grafton Cheddar product lines to prospects.
  • Utilize active listening skills to understand needs of customers.
  • Develop rapport with client decision makers to nurture and close sales opportunities.
  • In conjunction with the CEO and sales team, coordinate the development of potential customers for GVCC's line offerings.
  • Assist in all aspect of closing sales to attain targeted sales goals as agreed upon with the company.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospects, clients, vendors and internal GVCC departments.
  • Work to insure the sales team has the most current material to help sell the product lines of Grafton Village Cheese.
  • Build on and manage existing sales staff.

Required Skills:


  • Proven ability to deliver results and close business
  • In depth knowledge of fine food sales; knowledge of the artisanal cheese sales preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to articulate effectively; both verbally and in writing
  • Highly personable and trustworthy
  • Possess the skill to develop and manage a sales forecast
  • Ability to create a sense of opportunity/urgency with potential sales targets
  • Ability to develop sales presentation, proposals, pro formas and client agreements
  • Ability to develop and explain detailed spreadsheets and articulate value proposition
  • Ability to perform sales presentations, knowledgeably answer questions and provide timely followup
  • Ability to negotiate contracts
  • Strong and successful management skills

Required Experience and Education

  • 10+ years in consultative related sales experience;
  • Fine Foods experience required
  • Successful track record of territorial management
  • Successful track record of delivering results
  • General knowledge of mail order and retail operations
  • Comfortable interacting with senior executives, board members, etc.
  • Bachelor degree with an emphasis on business and marketing
  • 10 years of successfully managing a staff of at least eight.
