Summary:


Prepares specimens for analysis by registering and accessioning orders via Laboratory Information Systems (clinical lab and/or anatomic pathology), verifying specimen acceptability.

The Lab Assistant Coordinator may perform administrative functions and serve as a resource to staff and clinicians for troubleshooting, scheduling and training.


Responsibilities:

Provides laboratory customer service to include request for add-ons, specimen collection information, phlebotomy requests, result inquiry, etc.
Performs clerical duties. Maintains equipment and adequate stock of supplies. Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.
May perform phlebotomy functions.
May manage work queues of registration and billing discrepancies.
May coordinate billing functions of reference lab testing.
May determine and coordinates daily staffing assignments and levels.
Train and coordinate training of new and current employees.
Provides input to evaluations of team members.

Education and Certification Requirements:
High School Diploma or Equivalent (required)

Complexity of Work:
Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers. Basic knowledge of laboratory information systems. Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with mínimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Three (3) years as a Laboratory Assistant and/or Phlebotomist.
