Principal of Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School
Job Goal: To develop, oversee, and administer a comprehensive program of studies to promote the academic achievement and technical skill attainment of all students and to ensure the efficient operation of the high school


Our Students:

Southeastern serves 1,600 students who represent the rich cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic diversity of the nine communities in our region.

Approximately 60% of our students identify as students of color, one in four speaks English as a second language, nearly half come from families with lower incomes, and just over 15% are students with disabilities.

The primary world languages spoken by our students and families are:
Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Spanish, Portuguese, and French.

Our students balance a rigorous course of academic studies that includes honors, advanced placement, and dual enrollment options with technical education in one of 21 career majors.


The High School Administrative Team:

The Principal directly supervises the Vice Principal of Student Support Services, the Vice Principal of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, and the Vocational Supervisors.

Through the Vice Principals, the Principal provides leadership to the Director of Guidance, the Director of Special Education, and the Academic Supervisors.


The Faculty:

The Principal is the instructional leader for approximately 130 academic and vocational teachers as well as nine guidance and adjustment counselors


Qualifications:


  • Master's degree or higher.
  • Possession of a valid license as a Vocational Principal/Assistant Principal through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Minimum of six years' experience in vocational education; previous experience as an administrator in a vocational technical high school preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create positive relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Representative Performance Responsibilities:


  • Works collaboratively with the Superintendent and administrators to effectively oversee and administer the program of academic and vocational instruction at the high school.
  • Expresses a collaborative vision of leadership with the Superintendent, and all administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Fosters and maintains an environment where all employees, students, families, and community members feel valued and respected.
  • Delivers important information to the school community through regular communications.
  • Develops and monitors the high school budget, oversees the allocation of resources to programs within the high school, and adheres to all district policies and practices as they relate to purchases and expenditures.
  • Oversees and directs the supervision and evaluation of the faculty and staff, and makes recommendations to the Superintendent regarding the status of all staff members with regard to reappointment and award of salary increases.
  • Oversees and directs employee orientation and staff induction, mentoring, and professional development programs.
  • Organizes, directs, and evaluates all high school instruction and operations to maintain the efficient organization and qualify of instruction at the school in such a manner that it will meet all state and regional accreditation standards.
  • Ensures that instructional practices, organizational policies and procedures, and interpersonal communications consider the cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic diversity of staff, students, families, and community partners.
  • Oversees the assignment of teachers and substitutes to ensure adequate supervision and instruction of students.
  • Regularly attends student activities and events.
  • Attends all school committee and appropriate subcommittee meetings and provides reports, as requested.
  • Works with the data analyst to compile, analyze, and report data related to student achievement, discipline, attendance, cooperative education, etc.
  • Engages administrators, faculty, staff, students, families, and community members in the development and executive of the school improvement plan.
  • Collaborates with the Superintendent in developing and executing the district's longterm strategic plan.
  • Works to increase family engagement through the school council, family engagement events, volunteer opportunities, and regular communications.
  • Leads the development of schoolwide safety policies, plans, procedures, and practices and ensures compliance with mandated safety drills.
  • Works in coordination with the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the Human Resources team to engage in equitable recruitment and hiring processes and makes recommendations to the Superintendent for appointment of high school administrators, faculty, and staff.
