Position:
A music teacher at Devon Prep plays a crucial role in inspiring a love for music, nurturing talent, and helping students develop lifelong musical skills and appreciation.
Responsibilities:
Teaching High School Band and Choral Group
- Instructing students in fundamental music theory, including notation, rhythm, harmony and melody.
- Teaching students how to read sheet music and understand musical symbols.
- Providing instruction in playing musical instruments such as piano, guitar, saxophone, trombone etc.
- Teaching students different singing techniques and improving skill as well as encouraging confidence.
- Creating engaging and comprehensive lesson plans.
- Incorporating a variety of teaching methods and resources to cater to different learning styles.
- Encouraging musical creativity by encouraging composition, improvisation and exploration of various musical styles and genres.
- Directing student ensembles in rehearsals and performances.
- Organizing and coordinating musical rehearsals and performances with the students and parents within the Music Program.
- Establishing classroom rules and expectations to create a positive and respectful learning environment.
- Creating a fun and engaging learning environment within the classroom.
- Communicating effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administrators regarding student progress, performances, and other relevant information.
- Maintaining and organizing musical instruments, sheet music, audiovisual aids and other resources in good condition.
- Keeping the music room and equipment organized.
