Salary Range:$1,538 - $1,634/week, Depending on Experience

Shift:Varied: Normal work schedule Monday
  • Friday 8:00 a.
m. - 4:30 p.m.

  • Includes evenings and weekends as needed.

Position Summary:


Reporting to the Director of Maintenance, this position is focused on supporting safety, efficiency, and effectiveness within the Transit MRO.

A particular area of concentration is the transition to a Zero Emission Fleet to include transit bus, paratransit van and support vehicles.

This requires an understanding of associated technology & regulatory requirements; the ability to recognize organization/operational constraints, creative thinking, and excellent people skills.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Safety compliance and culture (FTA, OSHA, NFPA70E)
  • Develop training plans for personnel, SOP's and 'Best Practice' guidelines.
  • Using data metrics to support and measure success of decision making.
  • Lead targeted, sustainable improvement projects.

Safety compliance and culture:_Ensure site workplace safety policies are in line with industry best practice and meet all regulatory requirements. Be active in safety culture on the shop floor by engaging, coaching, and training the workforce. Work as part of the team along with management and foreman to ensure compliance with policies. Stays informed on industry trends and best practice to ensure policies and practices remain current.

Training & SOP's:_With Department Head, identify the technical and safety training needs to meet current and future department goals. Work with various resources to develop and implement training plans. Manage the Learning Management System (LMS) for the department. Work with management and team members to document Standard Operating Procedures and Best Practice guidelines.

Using data metrics to support and measure success of decision making_**: With Department Head, gather, assimilate and present operational and financial data to support department goals including but not limited to: PM On-Time, Bus Swap by Complaint, Categorized RCA of Breakdowns, Repeat Failure by Vehicle, and Mean Distance Between Failures by Vehicle Class. Provide training/coaching to personnel to support applicable data creation and capture.

Lead targeted projects, such as_**: Assessing safety requirements of new equipment/ technologies, replacing paper/manual processes with automation using EAM software, 5S activities, assessment of alternate component/fluids, and reviewing breakdown trends to develop corrective actions.

Education and/or Experience:


  • Five (5) or more years of relevant technical experience preferably in fleet or heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • OSHA 30 certificate preferred, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge.
  • Ability to read and understand complex technical manuals, schematics, procedures, etc for electromechanical equipment.
  • Experience assessing root cause of mechanical and electrical failures and appropriate corrective actions.
  • Experience working with EAM software (Trapeze), competent in MS Office Suite (Word, Excell, Power Point).
  • Two (2) or more years in a leadership or supervisory role collaborating, leading, and mentoring others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates, and the public.
  • Must have extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and perform a variety of complex tasks with a wide degree of creativity and latitude.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
