JOB SUMMARY


A dynamic and innovative educational early childhood leader who possesses a compelling vision for the future of a student-centered and integrated PreK program.

The Early Childhood Coordinator will lead and manage a highly effective and respected school as a professional learning community characterized by common purpose, collaborative activity, and collective responsibility.

Working closely with the Team Chair and Student Services to ensure the effective implementation of special education supports and services.

Responsible for providing instructional leadership to a school community that prides itself on educational excellence and equity through the development and implementation of strong and innovative curricular programs, the planning and provision of high-quality professional development, and the development and maintenance of a budget that is fiscally responsible and supports the districts core values, mission, and vision.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES(include but are not limited to)**:

  • Provides leadership in the implementation of all required curriculum within the school
  • Keeps abreast of current early childhood and special education research and professional literature
  • Acts as a consultant to the Director of Student Services on budgetary matters, transportation, grants, facility use, and other general district procedures. In addition is the lead on all funds collected as tuition for peer model students
  • Coordinates transition of preschool students to kindergarten in a cohesive and efficient manner that engages teachers, administrators, and families.
  • Supervises and maintains a safe environment for staff and students
  • Develops and monitors child safety protocols
  • Maintains and distributes all required records and reports as required by Chapter 766 and in accordance with state and federal statutes for the preschool
  • Acts as a liaison and consultant to the Canton Association of Parents and Teachers (CAPT) including but not limited to planning parent training
  • Supervises classroom and integrative therapies in accordance with each childs individualized educational plan (IEP)
  • Provides for appropriate training and inservice activities for the Developmental Preschool staff
  • Hires staff in conjunction with the Director of Student Services for the Developmental Preschool
  • Supervises outreach and recruitment of families from DEEC defined high need in specific categories
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes other duties as may from timetotime be assigned by the Director of Student Services, the Superintendent or his designee

Qualifications:


  • A Masters degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in special education or early childhood.
  • A valid Massachusetts DESE Certification as a school principal/assistant principal preK6 or Special Education Administrator
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in either school administration or special education with young children with special needs.
  • Experience working in an administrative role with supervisory responsibilities
  • A proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to, administrators, parents, teachers, school committee members, other school staff, human service and governmental agencies.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Wellorganized with excellent leadership abilities
  • Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Employmentbased on successful completion of CORI and fingerprinting background
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable

Early Childhood Coordinator is responsible for the performance evaluation of all early childhood staff
