Job Summary:

Under close supervision, operates & balances cash register, & replenishes food & non-food items as required.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Operates cash register, receives cash drawer containing change fund at beginning of shift, receives money from customers for food purchased and rings up oncall doctors and volunteer purchases separate.
  • Balances cash at end of shift.
  • Prepares cash total sheet noting totals, actual cash count and overages or shortages, noting date, and initials on register tape and turns money over to Business Office Cashier, receives a receipt for cash and files it in Diet Office.
  • Records noncash sales totals for oncall doctors, volunteers, and students.
  • Makes coffee, replenishes other supplies to ensure uninterrupted service to customers.
  • Wipes off dining room tables as needed, and replenishes silverware, straws, lids, sugar, creamer, stirrers, hot cups, salt, pepper, and other items to ensure uninterrupted service to customers.
  • Maintains cleanliness of cafeteria serving area.
  • May assess dollar figure for catering orders and other recharges using established guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

  • Ability to count cash and make correct change.
  • Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • If position is oncall, must meet standards of oncall availability and be able to report to duty within one hour after being notified.
  • Light physical demands.
  • Requires sitting for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including cash register and adding machine.
