Job Overview:
The Anesthesia Technician is an integral member of the anesthesia patient care team. Their role is to assist licensed anesthesia
providers (Anesthesiologist and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in providing safe, efficient, and cost effective patient care. The Anesthesia
Technician is responsible for the daily coordination, preparation, and
maintenance of anesthesia equipment, supplies, and medications required for the administration of anesthesia.

The Anesthesia Technician provides support for routine surgical cases by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during, and after anesthesia.

He/she will perform other related duties as needed to maintain department cost containment, efficiency, as well as quality performance. Other duties as assigned.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Actively works to promote and maintain an organizational culture that enhances our standing as the best place to work and receive care.
  • Active engagement in staff meetings, department meetings, in-services, educational requirements, etc.
  • Prepares and maintains the anesthesia equipment and supplies within the facility. In addition, prepares and maintains a safe patient care environment within the OR suite.
  • Performs calibration, quality control testing, maintenance, safety checks and cleaning of anesthesia/patient care equipment ensuring all equipment is in safe working order. Accurately records results and maintains appropriate logs of testing, calibrations, etc.
  • Performs troubleshooting of non-functioning anesthesia equipment/machines.
  • Displays knowledge of the care and handling of instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assists in the maintenance of equipment and instrumentation to facilitate durability and availability for future procedures.
  • Assists the Anesthesiologist with intubation procedures. Identifies and prepares the various types of intubation equipment, as well as any special equipment and
supplies, necessary for difficult intubations. Correctly applies cricoid pressure, when requested, to facilitate endotracheal tube placement.


  • Demonstrates knowledge of The Surgery Center's current policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of emergency equipment and is knowledgeable in the appropriate emergency protocols.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of safe handling, storage, and usage of cylinder gases. Understands usage of common anesthetic gases.
  • Demonstrates understanding of different types of and the indications for local, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), regional and general anesthesia.
  • Assists with stripping, cleaning, and setting up the OR suite for surgical cases with efficiency and speed.
  • Assists with OR flow as required.
  • Contributes to meeting the fluctuating staffing needs of the department as evidenced by flexibility in own assignment and work schedule.
  • Demonstrates initiative and collaborates professionally with caregivers in/out of the OR suite.
  • Promotes teamwork by assisting with the precepting of new caregivers.
  • Identifies areas of conflict, intervenes effectively, or seeks assistance in conflict resolution.

Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification (CAT) is preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year work experience as an Anesthesia Technician is required.
  • Experience in Ambulatory Surgery or Outpatient Surgery preferred.

Certifications:
Currently holds American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) or AHA approved equivalent (or obtains within three (3) months
of hire).


Physical Abilities:

  • Lift 10 lbs. box overhead. Lift and carry 15 lbs. Push/pull 20 lbs. cart.
  • Lift and carry 2535 lbs. Push/pull lbs. (ie. empty bed, stretcher)
  • Lift and carry 4050 lbs. Push/pull +/ lbs. (Patients on bed, stretcher), Lateral transfer lbs. (ie. Patient)
  • Lift over 50 lbs. Carry 80 lbs. a distance of 30 feet. Push/pull > 200 lbs. (ie.
Patients on bed, stretcher)
