Summer Youth Employment Program

The Program Director will be responsible for ensuring a safe and supportive environment for our youth staff to learn and grow.

He/she will oversee the SYEP, which includes administrative tasks, curriculum planning and development, hiring youth staff, and supervision.

The Program Director will also establish and sustain community partnerships with local businesses and service organizations in order to secure worksites and service opportunities for our youth employees.


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Program Director supervises the Youth Employee Supervisor and the Youth Employees. There is also shared leadership with the Pastor.
  • Secure local worksite where students can learn basic work skills and gain work experience.
  • Coordinate youth employees' work schedules.
  • Creatively present life skill curriculum in a way that will engage youth employees in the learning experience.
  • Facilitate daily huddles.
  • Schedule and organize trips for career exploration.
  • In collaboration with the Pastor, plan onsite work tasks.
  • Review daily data entry to ensure Youth Employees are thoughtfully processing and recording their experience and what they are learning.
  • Hold all youth employee staff accountable to the expectation of fully participating in the program.
  • Coach Youth Employees to collaborate on at least one community service opportunity they will initiate, plan, and execute.
  • Upon completion of the SYEP, provide a report of youth employees' summer work experience using the data collected.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous work experience with teenagers is preferred.
  • Experience in teaching and developing a curriculum is highly preferred.

  • Ability to connect, communicate, and work patiently with teenagers.
  • Evidence of skills relevant to developing learning activities.
  • The ability to be creative and flexible.
  • Ability to motivate staff, build team cohesion, and hold staff accountable to expectations.
