Lean Quality Engineer

Shift: First or as needed

Target Salary: $78-85K+ DOE

Reports to Quality Manager

Job Type: Permanent/Regular
Location: BIRMINGHAM, AL

Key Responsibilities

Promote a mindset of operational excellence across the organization through standardization, process controls, and defect prevention.

Provide training for plant personnel on quality concepts, such as Root Cause Analysis, Quality Containment, Error Proofing, Risk Reduction, and Customer Interface Characteristics.

Analyze current work practices to identify opportunities for improvement; recommend countermeasures to optimize performance.

Create and maintain required Standardize Work Documents, including work sequence charts, cycle time studies, and labor utilization.

Support safety via ergonomic analysis and development of corrective actions that reduce risk of work-related strains.

Develop visual controls and signage in the plant to reinforce quality standards and on-the-fly problem solving.

Lead cross-functional team in multiple day, rapid improvement kaizen events that optimize quality, scrap, or other performance metrics.

Report progress to WCM Lead and ensure progress towards cost-savings goals are achieved.

Empower employees to lead continuous improvement in their own work areas via quality workshops, assisting with implementing improvements, and recognizing employees for their contributions.

Ensure improvement activities are being communicated, understood, and supported with quality in mind throughout the organization.

Support launch of new programs by working with engineers to identify Customer Interface Characteristics, validate Error Proofing address high risk features, and include Quality countermeasures in operator Standard Work Instructions.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Lead large and small-scale projects to improve quality control via operator standard work (visual controls, time studies, improved gauges, etc.)
Be a key leader in the organization, participate in plant meetings (from high level strategy sessions down to daily walks).
Demonstrated ability to effect change in a manufacturing environment and ensure improvement activity is being communicated, understood, and supported within the organization.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups and deliver quality training.
High aptitude for problem solving and analytical thinking.
Highly organized, able to work with limited direct supervision, motivated to successfully meet deadlines, attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
Ability to read and understand quality standards.
Ability to manage the execution of complex projects.
Demonstrate the ability to build collaborative relationships and influence others.
Verbal and written communication skills; able to clearly articulate ideas and manage the change process.

Additional Information

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or GED required
B.S. degree in Engineering (preferred), or minimum 5 years' experience in quality
